Since the ashtray has been stolen I've been looking for something to replace it with. Never had a mk2 GTI before so thought I'd look for one. Rang up my insurance company to see how much it would be and they won't even insure me on one! Apparently I'm not old enough, I'm bloody 23!

Only reason I was looking at GTIs was because its easier to find a GTI than a non-GTI. For reasonable money anyway.

Guess I best start looking for something else now.

Out of interest what insurance group are 8V GTI's in?

I'm 22, bought my first 8V GTI about 6 weeks ago now (I was 21 at the time). Never even checked insurance on them before. Rang up and its cheaper to insure than my valver.

I'm 20 and 8v GTI insurance isn't a problem, roughly £500 for a year. Some insurers have been a bit iffy about 16vs and G60s when I've asked though. Must just be your postcode karmaham.

I would try another insurance company if i was you. When i was looking at getting a 16v mk2 gti it was only £90 more than my gt is atm. and I'm 20

Yeah it's pretty good, my 318is isn't too bad either, about £650 for 10 months.

ah ok theres not many companys that will do ten months , thats what i did as i didnt have all the full amount when i had to re do my renewal

Not particularly bothered at the moment as no other company even gets close to their prices right now.

Most do, it's just their websites that don't accept your NCB beeing higher than the years you've been driving. If you ring up i'd be suprised if they didn't accept it.

thats what i did ! did some mods on my car and i knew mt renewal was coming up and i knew tesco didnt allow modifactions if you where under 25 so did a quote with elephant and it was cheep and i thaught that cant be right so i rang them up and they checked it all thu as it was ! then i added my dad as a named driver and did the ten months thing and i paid £560 all mods decleared and 2 years no claims :)

i recently renwed my 318is for £887 on a 12 month policy with bell

cant grumble really seeing as I'm 20 and a student

could insure much faster things for not a lot more but for its general cheap to run and its reliability / ability to drive to 250 miles in one sitting to see the gf at 100mph and only £30 worth of fuel i cant complain tbh
