Hi,

I have a 2002 Polo and recently discovered that the drivers side mat was soaking wet with water..on further investigation it was found that a bag (located behind trim by bonnet catch on the drivers side) was punctured and apparantly had once contained water.. contained in the thin plastic bag was a black sponge..I have no idea what this is and what purpose it serves there is another on the passenger side...does anyone have any idea what these bags are ? And why are they there ?????????

This looks like a weird post but I am flumoxxed and I aint bean drinkknings

so a bag at the front of the car (tesco?) has a hole in it and may have caused water to come into the cabin of the car about a metre away and has made your mat moist?

I think your mr fusion system might possibly be on the blink.

Common VW problem....water in the footwells, not the plastic bags bit...

Check the vents on either side of the bonnet hinges - on both sides you should see a black rubber circle with a cross type cut - just in front of the firewall. This is your drain vent and usually gets blocked with leaves etc. Need to push a stick thru to clear the vents to allow water to drain out (That's assuming you find standing water in place.)

Next check is your door seals, make sure they are tight - open door, place sheet of paper in between and close, if you can pull the paper out, you have a problem.

Next check your door cards - if someone has been in the door to replace the glass or whatever, they may have cut the plastic seal and not replaced it correctly.

Final check, if you have a sun roof, check your drain vents are clear and undamaged as these tend to dump water inside when broken - recent issue on a MK4 Golf in our experience...

As to your plastic bags with sponges inside... Ballast? Defo not standard issue with any V-Dub I've had and I've driven a few...

Sure be more useful then adding a tail spoiler to a front wheel drive box...
