Window removal

Featured Replies

I need to remove all the windows from my mk2 square, and don't really want to pay some1 to do it. Also, need to do some work, de-rusting, and not sure how i'd get it back from the garage to do this, as I assume driving with no windows is illegal.

Never seen it done so any tips and equipment needed would be helpful.

Cheers

Well, when i had mine broken, i asked the guy who fixed it how he gets them out without smashing them, and he said he pushes them out with his feet!

I'm not sure it is illegal to drive without windows, since some cars just dont have them (kit cars are a good eg.) but you'l probably want some goggles to keep shit out your eyes!

How far will you be driving without them?

All but the screen are easy.

Back and sides - Just work the inner seal along with your fingers (tuck it from behind the flange) until its out enough for you to withdraw it from the outside.

Doors - bolt-up job.

Windscreen - do not try to press it out with your feet, its possible with some old cars but this one's too thin in relation to the seal and you'll crack it.

Well i thought that would be the case, and mine had a HUGE crack in it, whole top passenger quarter, but thats how got it out. Not that i would suggest this, the guy was a pro after all.

Any ideas how to get the wind screen out?
