F*cking Police

Featured Replies

So pissed off....just got pulled because apparentely my exhaust is "too loud" in the officer's opinion.

So It was about 12 o clock.. just driving back to my house and I see a cop car pulled up on the side of the road - It had just stopped another car. As I drove past, was in 5th gear doing 30, so you can imagine noise levels at a minimum. About 100 metres up the road I see the police car quickly accelerate up behind me, then follow me round a few corners into my estate, blue lights start flashing and i think oh god here we go again (as I've been pulled about 10 times this year).

He gets out, does the usual look around the car checking tread depths etc, gives the usual speech saying do you know stretched tyres are dangerous etc, but doesn't do anything as I tell him there is no law against it and it is a grey area, which he sort of mumbles about for a bit longer and decides he can't do me for them.

He then asks me to start the car, with a sort of smug grin on his face as he knows it isn't a standard system. So i start it up, he has a quick look under the car and says, "So what year is this car?" And i say, it's a 1993.. He then pauses for a minute to think and says "do you know there is meant to be a catalytic converter on there if the car is registered after umm.." at which point i butt in and say "yeah, August 1992, and that's why the cat is still on there". He looks a bit puzzled and says "oh, so it is".

After this he gets up and says, "The way the exhaust is designed, there are baffles in the center section and backbox which slow the flow of gas down..." to which I say "Yes, it has baffles it is not a completely straight through pipe". He then pauses again and tells me to turn it off. Then, this is the bit that really annoyed me; he says "Well, in my opinion it is too loud, you have to compare it with a standard car, and these little VW polos are very quiet when they come off the production line". I knew at this point that I was going to get blue slip whether I liked it or not, so decided to stop arguing and just take it on the chin.

He wants me to go get a quieter system put on then take it to an MOT station to be tested now.... even though I've had it MOT'd with this exhaust system on! So am going to go straight to the MOT test center as it is now and get them to see if they think it is too loud.

Btw, the system I have on is a powerflow straight through with a massive backbox to keep it fairly quiet. I will put a video up of it tomorrow just so people can hear how quiet it is.

Rant over... :x

No need to get annoyed,it'll get turned over and you'll have the last laugh. If he pulls you again for it,just remind him. Where's the problem?

Hah true.. I've cooled down now. Just really annoying every time I get pulled it's as if they're trying to find something to do me for just cos i'm a young lad driving a modified car. I'm going to keep a copy of the stamped blue slip in my car just for the next time I get pulled so i can give them one of these :finger: if they try to do me for it again. What I didn't understand was, if it's so illegal then why wasn't it picked up on all the other times I've been stopped? I really have lost all faith in the police.

he basically had to do something on his broign wank nightshift dude, the police around my area stop you from walking to the shop (and i live in a middle class estate) Just got to Do something when theres nothing else for them to do

It's just something they have to do aswell .

so would he pull a lambo over or a tvr, fair enough if your driving like a tool but by the sounds of things you weren't

All i said was it's just something they do .

nah, someone like this assumes because its an old car there has to be something wrong with it, and what the police dont seem to realise is that most modders take a lot of care in their cars by making sure that everything is legal.

I get the "routine check" around here at least twice a month because its an old car according to one copper, wound him up further by flashing a brand new MOT at him with 0 advisories

Police around Rhyl have a good one, they pull you in a then say you have no insurance just so they can keep you there.

Yeah, what I don't understand is; A lambo booting it up the road is going to be far far far louder than my car, and would they be able to stop him for it? No, not if he wasnt speeding. I'd like to find out if there is a maximum decibel limit for different engine sizes, like there is with motorbikes.

Will be off to the MOT garage on monday to get my blue slip stamped

HAHA I want one!!

i got pulled over the other night for suposidly turning into my road a bit to quick they couldnt find a thing wrong with the car and was told they thought i might have been a drunk driver was funny watching the copper trying to find somthing wrong with my car

its coppers like this that give all the good ones a bad name, i've been pulled a few times with some blatant faults (bonnet held on with rope, side exit held on with rope tied over the car, one 14" wheel with balloon tire and 3 13" with stretched tires, missing front bumper ect ect). all they have said is get it sorted and if we see you driving it like that again we'll throw the book at you, imo that's a good copper, willing to give you a chance to get it sorted before getting the law involved.

there are some good ones out there it just seems like they are becoming fewer and further between... its not helped by all the power crazy plastic coppers they are putting on the streets tho...

btw way i think i spotted you last Saturday, i put a post up in the spotted section.

When I got pulled the cops the last three times they have been sound as a pound. In fact, come to think of it. I've never been pulled by an officer who is a cock. I'm always just polite and friendly and they usually appreciate it and give the minimum bollocking and let you get on your way.

However much i hate to say it, the rozza' is infact, correct.

It is written in the MOT testers manual and on VOSA VTS System that if a car is seen (or...heard) to be considerably louder than it's standard counterpart, the car should not be given an MOT certificate. I can't remember the exact specifics as to why it's there but i know it's all down to the testers digression, as is with a lot of the other parts that make up an MOT test.

This is the grey area the police will have you on, it's a very small sub-section in the manual, but it does exist. I didn't believe it 'till i was shown!

Ask your tester the next time you pop in, if he doesn't know make him get the manual out.

Jack.

bad times. i got pulled, my exhaust was 104db.

30 pound fine as i was polite, could of been alot worse.

That's the thing it's not considerably louder than a standard original, but you can tell it isn't standard. Well i'm not going to change it at all, just pop off down the MOT station and get them to test it for me. If worst comes to worst I'll get a mid box fitted but I don't wanna back down to the police really. There are absoloutely tonnes of people round my area with much louder exhausts... have they been pulled for them? No. I think he just wanted to find something to do me for.. he sort of went round doing all the checks on the lights, tyres, all the normal things and found them to all be legal, which is when he told me to start my car. When he got out of his car he didn't even tell me what he'd stopped me for when i asked! :?

i on my gt i had a side exit that was just a pipe from the mid box straight out the side, i got pulled twice in that and they never said any thing about how loud it was.

i had a funny run in with the police the other day

tried to give me a section 59 for suposidly playing my music to loud.

some one had given my reg and said i was being anti-social by having my music blaring. so when the copper said about it i was like.

hold on hold on! your trying to do me over for playing me music to loud. which he replied to with a yes

i was like okay then....... with what sterio?

dont even have any audio in my car! not even the crap dash speakers!

divy

some coppers are jst power crazy little wankers, i got a fine for bibbing my horn twice, apparently he knew it was me because he saw me do it, funny that it was the person next to me. i didnt blame them i just went along with it, what a load of bullshit though

that sucks matey, but could have been worse i guess - are you going to have to pay to have it checked out ? because thats bullshit!

welcome to my world - PhilJ says i get pulled over so much because i look like a crack dealer..

coppers around here are pretty sorted. apart from one guy when i was just driving to work one mornin and he did a u turn and pulled me for having one wiper. and when i explained that he scanned the whole car trying to do me for something, and when that failed, broke out the breathalizer lol

there's nothing better than seein a knobhead copper let down by his best efforts

and the bastard didn't give me one of those receipt things you get now so i had no proof of why i was late for work...

My mate has the best way of avoiding these. While they're writing the ticket, they ask you your occupation

"MOT Tester"
