Are you with Swinton insurance?

Featured Replies

My cousin is with Swinton and she recently crashed her car. However we found something interesting out about the cover after she had the crash. Basically they don't insure you for 52 weeks, they only insure you for 50 weeks. Example I took my policy out on the 22nd of June 09 and it ends on 21st June 10 which makes sense. However if you take your policy with Swinton on 22nd June 09 it would end of 2nd June 10. Imo thats a sneaky thing to do because you always assume your insurance is for a year and not 50 weeks and 2 they don't send you a reminder to let you know your policy is up for renwal. So basically shes had this crash and wasn't actually insured on the car when it happened. She always renews when its due, shes not so dodgy pikey but Swinton basically didn't inform her of it and now a little bump has turned into a major issue. I'm sure it'll be in the small print somewhere to cover there arses but I'd hate to see anyone else get caught out by this. After all, who actually reads all the T&Cs of there insurance, or anything for that matter, lol.

If your with them I suggest you give them a tinkle and find out when your policy actually ends and not just assume your policy is for a year.

Personally I think its a disgrace. If your going to have a policy like that you should at least let people know when they take out the policy. When you take insurance for a year you expect it to be for a year, not 50 weeks.

Thats just wrong

was with swinton for my 1st year and the reason you have just pointed out is why i changed come renewal time!

As 50 weeks is not a year, do other insurance companies accept this policy as a 'years no claims'?

Or is it a very sneaky way of keeping a hold of customers in a 9 month = 1 year NCB way...

I guess it must be a way of keeping quotes looking competitive. Interesting though...

That's ridiculous!

Complain, complain, complain.

My insurance company sends me a letter about a month before it's due to expire, and if I don't call them the next day, they phone me and also send another letter a few days later saying they haven't heard from me

Bit annoying, but at least you'd never miss the expiration date.

brentacre ftw tbh. I'm with them purely because I like the personal feel :) and also because they'll insure a 20 yr old on a 20vt polo! :)

1 more yr for 20vt then :)

Just turned 19 so 1 more year !!

Thats rate dodgy by swinton just another way for them to make money i guess

+1 for brentacre. Covered me with mods for about 300 quid less than any other companies wanted for a standard car.
