I was going to get a remote locking kit with the flip keys, but need to get a new transponder chip to put in it.

I've been to 2 key places and both of them have put the key into a machine and then said its a Philips Crypto Key, which can't be cloned.

Is there anyone else with a 6n that has managed to get their key cloned? I've got a 1998 16v if it makes any difference. Failing that, is there any way to get the chip out of my original VW spare key without damaging it?

So the philips crypto keys can be cloned then? Timpsons said theyd have to get an auto locksmith to code a new key into my immobiliser and it would be £75.

Cheers mate, it looks like it might split, but I dont wanna break it.

edit: I managed to split the key. Is the chip the little grey box? Approx 1cm x 4mm.

yea thats the kiddy, just sits in a slot iirc.
