i havnt but know... we will say a little bit about audio! what you want to kno mate?

hey basically just asking around, i got about 1100wrms i need to power, standard batt and alt atm. I'm not very technical so wont know about taking off alts from other models etc wanted to know if getting a good deep cycle batt would b a good enough solution to power a big system

right.. people will probably dissagree with this but....

i wouldnt bother...

get another battery of same power as you have..

just get the thickest cable you can,

put the live through like you normaly would to the boot.. stick it to the 2nd battery..

earth the battery, dont use battery earth for amp!

run live from 2nd battery to the amp..

fuse before and after the 2nd battery for safety :)

and before people start saying i dont know what I'm on about..

its how i ran my punto which some may know from shows...

need i say more? :p lol

any more questions shoot away mate.

Love the floating can!

ooh ok will the 2nd batt charge as well? can it be a bigg batt i know a few deep cycle 1's going cheap. what about upgraded alt?

the problem with running batteries like that is all that will happen is the weaker original battery at the front will just pull the new battery down to the same voltage as the original one (you can buy 2 identical batteries but buy them both at the same time and ensure they are from the same batch)

if you do consider fitting a second battery then DO IT PROPERLY and use a split charge system

however a better battery like an optima or an nsb75 or a datasafe will be able to withstand the stresses your current battery is struggling with

also there is no reason why you cannot fit an uprated alternator from say a vr6 or 1.8t or even get your original alternator rewound so it will have a higher amperage output

its not the voltage that is the issue its more the current for example say you are running a combination of amps with a maximum current draw of 150 amps your standard alternator is for example around 90 amps therefore your amps are pulling more current than the alternator can possibly supply therefore the amps get hot and go into clipping and turn themselves off

if you want to resolve your problem then you have 2 correct choices

A fit an optima or an equivelant battery

B fit a proper split charge system with a second battery in the boot

cheers ken for the reply...so i can either go for a stronger Agm type batt or upgraded alt? where can i pick up a compatible alt. sorry I'm not too technical lol

here is a suggestion for a place that could rewind your alternator

http://www.eriks.co.uk/electro-mechanical-...=292&xb=185

alternatively got to a local motor factors with your alternator part number and cross reference it with other vw alternators to find the closest highest output alternator(usually a diesel one) as you may find one that is a direct fit

i think my current one is 90A what kind of increase would i expect if they rewound it? any ideas of pricE?

you can get them rewound to 150-200 amp it all depends on the size of the actual alternator casing as for cost around £70

yeah batteries need to be same power! up too you what you do, but my system certainly had no troubles running like that! lol

i checked my current one is 70A.

Euro what do u mean that the batt has to be the same power?

the batterys must be the same spec/age. as the rear battery will only hold as much power as the front has. add me on msn if you wanna go down this route.. euro_polo@live.co.uk

which is exactly as i posted earlier

also if you go down this route you WILL need at least a 350 amp ANL fuse and fuse holder in the boot and at the front to protect the car in case of a dead short as the car will pull one hell of a lot of current when starting the car

antonio i am always at the end of the phone if you need me again

cheers ken, i think i might go down the two battery route and poss uprate the alt. Ken, do the two batts have to have the same power? for example I've got a stock batt in atm but i know some 1 selling an AGM batt which is about 720CCA.

yes they need to be the same so need to have identical cca and amp hour ratings

if you fit the agm in the back all that will happen is what i mentioned earlier the front battery will pull the agm one down to its level so the agm will never be fully charged

if you keep the battery you already have then fit a split charge relay this will not be a problem as the amps will run only from the agm in the boot and then when the car is running both batteries will be charged off the alternator

also the benefit of the split charge is if the battery for the amps goes flat after extensive playing with the engine off you will still be able to start the car as the front battery will still be charged
