1996 Corrado 2.0 8V

Featured Replies

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Corrado 2.0 8V in Sherry Pearl (LC2U)

Year/Reg: 1996 ‘N’

Mileage: 172,000

MOT: September 2010

Tax: February 2010

Engine: 2.0 8V (ADY). Completely standard. Had a full service (oil, filters, plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm) along with cambelt and tensioner in November 2008, and two oil changes since then. Uses NO oil at all (I can hardly believe it either!). I’ve also replaced the thermostat, coolant temperature sensor, expansion tank (mk4), a steel water pipe and the crank position sensor, all with genuine VAG components. New front and gearbox engine mounts too.

Gearbox and Transmission: Standard 02A. No whines or rattles - changes nicely with no crunching into first.

Suspension: Standard VAG springs and shocks, all in good condition. Has had the wishbones replaced at some point in its recent past. I’ve fitted new genuine VAG lower ball joints and trackrod ends, as well as new genuine VAG front and rear wheel bearings. I reconditioned the front bearing carriers (hubs) and have fitted new top mount bushes and plates to the rear suspension. New outer CV boots on both sides too.

Brakes: In February 2009 I reconditioned and fitted a 280mm brake set-up to the front, and reconditioned standard calipers to the back. Goodrich stainless braided hoses all round. A couple of new rear solid pipes and new fluid. Genuine VAG discs and pads all round. I replaced the front ABS sensors and cleaned up the sensor rings, the back ones are fine. ABS works with no issues at all.

Exhaust: Standard triple-box system. Very quiet with no blowing. Emissions perfect at last MOT.

Wheels and Tyres: 16x7 BBS RXII wheels, brand new in April 2009 (bought on eBay) immaculate with no kerbing at all. Toyo T1-S tyres, all part worn but with plenty of life left.

Interior: Heated black leather interior, in good condition. The drivers seat has slight bolster wear but this could be repaired with a new bolster easily. Both heated seats work well. The drivers side cable snapped a couple of weeks ago, again an easy repair. VR6 spec steering wheel and a ‘daves16v’ handbrake cover bracket which tightens the centre console up really nicely. All interior electrics work!

Exterior: Had a respray in September 2008 to correct some scratches. Looks amazing in sherry pearl with no marks and dents to speak of.

Security: Cobra Cat 1 full closure alarm, fitted in December 2008 at a cost of £250. Includes certificate for insurance purposes and all the necessary instructions/documentation etc. Two fobs, three keys for the car.

ICE: No headunit, proper VAG ISO wiring, standard VAG speakers all round. Parcel shelf ready to accept 6x9’s if necessary (I didn’t bother!)

Bad Points: Its got a couple of scuffs and marks on the rear bumper corners. The heater direction controls only work on the windscreen and feet settings. There is a small blob of rust on the middle of the rear panel just below the number plate light, its about 10mm in diameter.

Comments: What can I say? This was my first Corrado and I love it. I really would be keeping it if I hadn’t been seduced by 6 cylinders at 15º :D And as I can’t really justify having 2 Corrados this one has to go. I reckon I’ve spent about £1500 in total on all the parts and upgrades over the last year. I would suggest ignoring the mileage, yes its high but you wouldn’t think it to drive the car. It drives really well and in terms of reliability I don’t think you’d find a better Corrado! It has a full service history right up until I bought it and since then everything has been done by me. I’ve got lots of receipts from previous owners (of which I’m the 4th) and I’ve kept every receipt for everything I’ve ever bought for it. It’s never let me down and doesn’t use a drop of oil or water. The brakes work well, the ABS works and the spoiler does its thing without fail! The sunroof, electric windows and electric mirrors all work properly too, even the glovebox light and sunvisor light work! I don’t have to really mention fuel economy, but I get no less than 38mpg even with my fairly brisk country lane commute! If I drive it steady it will return 45mpg or even higher! I would recommend coming to view, I honestly think the first person to do so will buy it!

If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask away! I’ll do my best to answer them!
