loud banging

Featured Replies

hey peps

I've got a banging noise coming from the front passenger side, its really annoying and i need alittle help!

I've jacked the car up taken the wheels at the front off, checked all the bushes (which are fine), checked everything is tight (which everything is), I've gone through the whole engine bay and tightening and fastening bits down that may cause rattle, I've replaced the exhuast mounts and even used cable tie's to give more strength, checked the wheel bearings (which are fine) and still I've got a banging noise?!?

the car is lowered on Philj shocks and springs, which make the car fucking bumping (which is good)!

the only last thing I've just thought of, maybe the spring has snapped or something?!

or

the flexipipe is smacking the bar that center crosses underneath the flexipipe :?

just wondering if anyone has experienced this problem? or is it something I'm being to picky about!

as its doing my fooking nut in!! :disgust:

Thanks

Darrell

Does this happen on full lock or pretty much whenever?

dead shock absorber???

banging noise, when does it actually happen.

Could also be an engine mount.

is it a deep noise or a "light" noise? I'm down pretty low on coilies and my arb knocks on the chassis rail over bumps.

is the suspension soft on 1 side?? I've got a little slight slaping noise when i go over speed bumps..

cheers guys for the replys

the noise is like a light slap, happens when i go over little bumps, speed bumps specially even at 4mph it makes a slap noise.

the shocks/springs are bout a year old, so they shouldnt be them unless they are fucking wank shocks!!!

I'm going to have another look today at the engine mounts etc

sounds like worn top mounts to me

its definatly coming from the suspension at the front.

top mounts, i gather these are cheap to replace?

  • Author

20pounds for top mounts, il check the top mounts now

Cheap to replace yeah but far from easy

nah it should be fine, got the tools needed etc

Banging noises on mk2's almost always go back to front top mounts. If you can lower a car, you can do strutmounts, they're the back rubber thing on top of the strut.

the lad who had it before me done the lowering, he had a garage do it, the garage was wank as everything they had fitted to the car was shit mechanic's, fitted everything wrong

i bought the top mounts today, 8 quid for two front top mounts 8-)

but me and my mate cant fit them, the top nut on the shock is spliting!!! and the other wont undo, plus i cant get mole grips through the spring!

well pissed off tbh, getting it sorted tomoz, meant to be at a meet tonight :doubt::doubt:

Hit them with some WD40 or plus gas, let them have a good soak then hit them with an impact gun.

my good old ford fiesta mk4 never EVER let me down, had the polo over a month and things going poo lol

found out definatly what was wrong with it.

the front shocks, Philj's apprently from the last owner and being about a year old, were bent to shit, leaking & along with a split top bolt.

the wheel bearing only had 3-4 wheel bearings in, which on the way to the garage i had the whole wheel seize up, nearly swerving into a curb at 40mph, so cheers to the lad who owned it before me!

top mounts were fine, but I've had them replaced now!

got bilstein's up front now

Hmm, was gonna jump in and say it might be a cv joint, as i have the same problem as you're describing, and my passenger side driveshaft has a good 5-6mm of play in it compared to the other side (about 1mm), but seeing as it's sorted now, nice one!

cheers anyway man, they had a look at the whole car (mate works there) and they said its perfect.

just mega pissed about nearly crashing the car on the way to the garage over a fucking wheel bearing
