Been offered a new project car for free.......

Featured Replies

One of my mates is loosing one of his 5 lock-ups and 3 of his cars has to go! (Has currently has 29 of them!) They are mainly old Jag's ( 2 x 420G's - 1x Series 1 XJ6 - 1 x Series 2 XJ6 - 1 x Series 3 XJ6) old Rovers (1 x P4, 1 x P5 Saloon, 1 X P5B Coupe, 3 SD1's) a few odd ones like an Alfa Powered 1951 Morris Minor Split-Screen. And a few old Volvo's (3), MG metro's Nissan Bluebird & his daily drivers (2 x Xantia's & a 406 or 2!) I know there are a few Fords kicking about too.

But i'll get onto the one I've been offered:- Its a 1979 T reg Capri Series 3 3.0 V6. Its a weird Gold colour (original paint) - its also got Ford Factory fit X-Pack metal arches (not the cheapo crap fibreglass ones) its got 7x13 Compromotives on it. It hasnt moved since we went up collect it in Aberdeen about 10 years ago. It was going to be used as a grass racer, but was saved before a cage was fitted. there is no interior, no glass, no dashboard, no lights or grill. I'll be going up later this week to go and look it over. Maybe try and get some pics too!

What the hell should I do with it if I got it? Restore or modify slightly?

Are Capri's retro enough to be cool?

If its a 79, its defintely retro enough to be cool Andy, hell for free, you'd be mad not too! Though what to do with it is another matter altogether... :unibrow:

1979 and 3.0L so its a mk2 then, has it still got the square headlights fitted? (people seem to retro fit mk3 quad lights to them), has it still got the vynal roof? i got a soft spot for early capri's but the mk1 is the daddy imo.

never the less this sounds like you are getting a fantastic deal

Big question is rust.

Big question is rust.

nothing some old newspaper and a lick of paint won't solve.

Paper and PVA glue surely?

capris are defo retro enough to be cool imo

although its 10 years older than me

Trampdrifter?:p

my mate has an old capri but he's got a 2.1 pinto lump in it with twin 40's cosworth gearbox and a welded back differentual and omg is it quick lol 50mph in mitcham the other day down into 2nd foot down = straight up rolling burnout lol

crapi are well kool....my mate has had alot of capri's...always thought with a bit of modding they look awsome

there was a SICK matte black one in max power last year... do eeeeeeet! 8-)

you should defo mod it a bit but a bigger engine into it :) love the old cars lol my dad used to have a mk1 ford cortina with a beast under the bonnet a v6 3.1 full race spec engine went through soooooo many gearboxes because of the torq unfortunatly had some idiot pull out infront of him and trashed the car (i might add for about the 7th time lol) so he brought a kit car instead and put the v6 into it

Its got the quad headlights - maybe it is later than that as its only got 1 plate on it that is visable - its on a T reg? makes it a 1979??

there is no rot on it at all, the worst part of the car was the bonnet and its been replaced with a red one

You've got enough cars that your currently "working on" so i suppose another won't hurt....much.

YES!

The ford capri is fast becoming a classic and the later 3.0 v6 ones can be worth up to £11k.

I would take it mate, even if you have no room for it. that can be worried about later. :-)

I remember a mate having one of these many moons ago, very quick car too!

He said 1st gear was only for racing  get a nice system on it and burble

all day long...love 'em (watch the back end tho' ;) )

Theres a white one with a black vinyl roof in my local scrappy, doesn't look too fucked either...

Weld the diff. and take it sideways! That matte black one above looks mental.

Restore, capri's are beginning to be collectors items and if its all done up properly then it will be worth a fortune to somebody

Jim has found out that the vehicle has some ford related history and was some kind of show vehicle for the X-pack kits that ford sold!

the thought of a mk1 capri sitting in a scrap yard brings a tear to my eye, i would love and cherish a mk1 no matter how ruff it was :-(

i was looking for one a year back when i came in to some money but just ended up blowing it all, maybe when i sell the rocco i can find a tidyish one.

saw a tidy mk1 the other day, black with chrome detail, and a black vinal roof, was beutiful

people can say what they like about ford, but at the end of the day they made some of the coolest oldskool cars still on the road today, when i see a sweet early water cooled vw i get a big grin on my face, when i see a sweet mk1 escort (change this to just about any sweet late 60's to early 80's ford) i get a hard on

i do love old cars, rebuilding my dads etype with him when he gets the new garage up :D
