I love it when people say they arent scene :-) errrm hello! youre posting on a website dedicated to polos, you probably drive a modified polo/other VW and then take that car to VW shows and meets, so whether you like it or not, you ARE scene as youre part of the VW enthusiast scene, deal with it!

The popular "look" at the minute, for me, is not good. But then again, i dont think I've ever liked any of the popular "looks" over the past 5 years I've been part of the magical scene, 99% of BBS wheels are ugly and i really cant see why people like them :? full leather interias are dire, tiny steering wheels just look stupid and overly stretched tyres are .... well they're just wrong. Theres loads of other popular mods i dont like, but I'm not really that bothered by the way people choose to mod their cars so i wont name them all

As said though, if youre bored of the "looks" then do something to change it  or just look the other way like me :-)

Not as wrong as still actively being on a Polo site when you don't actually own one :)

How do you know what i do and dont own? :-p

How do you know what i do and dont own? :-p

And why does it matter?

No G

No VW mojo

Simples

Jap FTW tbh

Yawn, you are stuck in a loop.

I'm only messing people :)

Everyone is trying hard to NOT be scene, its scene not to be AND to be :? yes i wrote that as soon as i thought of it, I'm still confused but its the same old isnt eg 'do what everyone else does' or ' say your not doing what everyone else does, but instead just put a few lairy colours on your car, to be different'. your only not scene if your not reading this........................ which you are!

How many do you see of them in mags?

You don't see them in mags for a reason ;)

Yep ;)

Because it would sell quicker than they could print it

Like Goths trying to be different but they all look the same?

Everyone is trying hard to NOT be scene

I'm not at all ;)

when I was on about the thing in PVW where they have 1 year, 5 year, 10 years ago, that's the EXACT car I was referring to! :)

Cliche's are only cliche because they are true :)

Same goes for modding i guess.

exactly doesnt matter what they look like, its the music they listen to, same as 'us' doesnt matter what the cars look like as long as they are VWs. I am scene, whether i like it or not, i really dont care, i just like my VW/s most of all and appreciate everyone elses cars even if they arent a VW.

edit: spelling

the only car mags i pay much attention to are PPC and retro cars, they have a nice spread of different styles and types of cars and are much more down to earth and open minded than the likes of pvw, and a lot more focus on the tech side of cars than just how they look. more of a car lovers mag than just some thing you by so you can keep up with the latest trends

Got it in one, I've bought PPC from day one, only missed one or two issues and I believe it will be issue 65 coming out tomorrow!

I love the staff cars section, always a laugh.

Never read retro cars. Recoomended?

On the scene side of things, its the same in any scene, e.g with fords, everyone whacks a pair of morettes and a set of compomotives on a Cossie, but it stills looks the bomb. I think the VW scene is more diverse in a way, as theres the old Air cooled beetles, the more modern stuff like MK2/3 polos, MK1 and 2 golfs, and then the really modern stuff like MK6 golf's all getting a seeing to. Then theres rat look and all other sub divisions of the scene. It just seems the mags are obsessed with a certain 3 or 4 types of car and nothing else.

or major 'players' with in the scene

if you like older modded cars then i think you will like retro cars, it's kinda the same thing as ppc is but where ppc is more about going fast on a budget rc is a bit of every thing, they seem to have much better photos in rc as well. still have handy features though like a guide on how to rebuild twin webber carbs

whys everybody hatin?

you cant tell me you dont admire the detail & work which goes into some of these cars? wether its to your taste or not its mind blowing when you see immaculate bays & full retrim etc. yes it can be over the top for a 'sensible daily car' but at the end of the day if we wanted sensible cars we wouldnt be into 'dubs', instead we would be driving around in a bog standard escort or mondeo etc.

i dont think its the cars that are the problem, but the people instead like mentioned before. there are people who seem to do things to please others & whats 'popular' at the time which i see alot of on ed38. but then theres people who are safe as fuck who could brag all day long about their car but still stay down to earth. for example smithys 6n on polished steffans is stunning, love the car, but hes safe as & not a big headed idiot.

i admit when i first got my polo i wanted it to be like everyone elses, low on borbets haaaa so yerr I'm scene wheeeey but iv learned alot since then & am always up for a chat to give advice or talk opinions. if more people were a bit more don to earth i think it would be alot less borning.

But that will never happen ahah

LOL I love this thread!

Weh weh the 'scene' lol

Interesting point, because i dont automatically agree - yet its hard to argue any other way.

Take domestic violence. Please. If women (and some blokes) didn't accept it,then it wouldnt exist. So i have sympathy the first time she gets hit, maybe the second, but certainly not the third occasion - because she went back to it and allowed it to bloom further. She feeds it,she breeds it.

Agree? Well,if something survives by you continuing to be part of it,you cant really argue.

The VW scene,then..

I really couldn't care for most of the cars, and many users i know nothing about, here. I give advice when it suits me. I pipe up when i can be arsed and to be frank i have zero interest in anyone outside my circle of friends or any car younger than 15 years - other than for parts compatibility,or noobs to my life. Yet i have a place here. Or do i?

So I'm scene.. Well,i stop for drink in my local on occasion,so i can be pigoen-holed into being part of British pub culture. And therefore probably an alcoholic yob.

The sooner 'the scene' becomes less of a categorisation, the better.

i agree with what everyones saying about the 'scene'. not sure about most people but i got into VW's because they wer cool, easily personalised cars with a good 'scene' but could still be used everyday as a normal car. a lot of the cars that you see around at the shows now are just show cars and never see real use. and those cars make everyone elses everyday VW's look crap. maybe that doesnt make sense or people dont agree but thats what i think.

ever seen smoothies on a polo? like proper pre67 bug smoothies..

Everything needs to be categorised if it wants/needs to be noticed. I agree with you though, over categorisation within categorising categories is just silly, and would be better if it was all just one thing, but nothing is ever ideal :-(

This thread is way too fucking serious for me and it sucks tbh

DK oush the button, use the powahhhhhhhhhhhh, you know you want too :-p Or do it on me so I don't read this again when someone else posts

But I love "newbie" folk who are quick to jump on someone when they don't have a named polo in their "Drives"
