i'm a 'real man', the type that opens up flat pack furniture and straight away throws away the instructions because instructions are a direct challenge to any mans masculinity!

Legend!!!

lmao - wow this is getting borderline philosophical.

all this talk about having the 'best car' is a bit pointless in my opinion.. what do you define as 'best'? you can build a car to be the fastest, or the cleanest or the most eyecatching, but you can't really build a car to be the best.

it's all down to personal preference and opinion, the best car to one person might be the worst to another. it's like art.

and what people talking about being 'scene' and stuff should not forget is that at the end of the day.. your car is simply YOUR car. you can do all you want, and spend as much as you want to make your car different and unique in the scene's eyes and impress other people but YOU are the one who has to own the car and drive around in it everyday. the whole point of owning and working on your car is to make YOU happy.

If it happens to inspire or make other people happy in the process, then I guess that is just an added bonus?

The 'scene' is getting shit. I can't even be bothered with it anymore. Too many people up their arses, too many haters, alot of people think VW's are the best cars in the world and everything else is crap. After my bro bought his Impreza STI its made me and even a few mates think 'shit, we need jap next!' I never thought that before though. Some people need a reality check and a kick in their arse!

I totally agree id have an eg or an ek9 if i could afford the insurance. ideally have both as i couldn't let the polo go :-)

i painted my car beige in an attempt to make an impression, posted a thread on edition and I got like 2 replies....hahaha....laughed so much! but seriously....I dont find all the bbs rolling show cars intimidating or anything....it actually makes me feel better that I'm trying something differant....even if it isnt everyones cup of tea!

TBH I believe the 'scene look' to work. Subtle styling mods ie smoothing ftw imo... That's just what I like. I also don't like my car looking like a 4x4 so I lower them but as they're my daily drivers the proper slammed look is just not practical nor do I think it looks all that... I like the arch to be just on top of the tyre.

And BBS's are never going to go out of fashion nor is stealing parts from more prestigious cars.

I'm not bored of it... I Can't say i'm a massive show goer or addicted to the scene which is maybe why i'm not bored of it!!!! I do like the mags though however I Don't buy that on a regular basis as I don't really get a chance to read them.

I dont really see what 'the scene' and modifications have to do with eachother. I've modified many of my cars, from the first one, various different manufacturers, and this is by far the closest I've been to any scene - a brief appearance at Polo show '04 and ed38 '08.

Yeah but if your car was a mk2 golf instead of a Mk4 polo then people would be interested, people just dont really like mk4's. I do, can't really see anything wrong with them myself.

I stepped away from the scene because i don't have enough money to afford a car because i'm sick of modified cars really. I see most as tacky now and wouldn't buy one or modify one much again because i would feel embarrassed driving it. I'm more in to nice, original looking older cars. Of course i like a slammed car and still like rat look because its interesting to look at...but for cars to have all this shit on them it just doesn't interest me anymore. Or should i say i don't feel like 'wow, i wish i owned that!' anymore.

I think there are two main factors (for me anyway) that the VW scene (well the polo scene) isn't changing.

First is this credit crunch, no one has the money to go out and spend heaps on a new idea for their car.

Second I think alot of people have realised at the end of the day your spending money on a Polo. Prices for the mk3, 4 and 5 are coming down so fast but prices for parts are staying the same/going up that once you've finished modding your 15 year old 1.0l Polo you could have gone out a bought something a bit more interesting.

Plus if someone new comes on here with an all new idea to modding a Polo, if it doesn't include slamming and BBS it just gets ripped into right away for being 'chavy' 'ugly' 'not scene'

I love it when people say they arent scene :-) errrm hello! youre posting on a website dedicated to polos, you probably drive a modified polo/other VW and then take that car to VW shows and meets, so whether you like it or not, you ARE scene as youre part of the VW enthusiast scene, deal with it!

The popular "look" at the minute, for me, is not good. But then again, i dont think I've ever liked any of the popular "looks" over the past 5 years I've been part of the magical scene, 99% of BBS wheels are ugly and i really cant see why people like them :? full leather interias are dire, tiny steering wheels just look stupid and overly stretched tyres are .... well they're just wrong. Theres loads of other popular mods i dont like, but I'm not really that bothered by the way people choose to mod their cars so i wont name them all

As said though, if youre bored of the "looks" then do something to change it  or just look the other way like me :-)

whys everybody hatin?

you cant tell me you dont admire the detail & work which goes into some of these cars? wether its to your taste or not its mind blowing when you see immaculate bays & full retrim etc. yes it can be over the top for a 'sensible daily car' but at the end of the day if we wanted sensible cars we wouldnt be into 'dubs', instead we would be driving around in a bog standard escort or mondeo etc.

i dont think its the cars that are the problem, but the people instead like mentioned before. there are people who seem to do things to please others & whats 'popular' at the time which i see alot of on ed38. but then theres people who are safe as fuck who could brag all day long about their car but still stay down to earth. for example smithys 6n on polished steffans is stunning, love the car, but hes safe as & not a big headed idiot.

i admit when i first got my polo i wanted it to be like everyone elses, low on borbets haaaa so yerr I'm scene wheeeey but iv learned alot since then & am always up for a chat to give advice or talk opinions. if more people were a bit more don to earth i think it would be alot less borning.

But that will never happen ahah

I have just read through the 5 Pages of people babbling on about The VW scene. The 2 that i kind of agree with are these 2 above.

I mod my car to the things that appeal to me. I.e the way i want it to look and yes Ok some of that is following like a sheep. ITS COZ IT WORKS AND LOOKS GOOD. But i personalise my car by doing other unigue things. I have done all the work myself and i have mates that pay for all the work to get done. I dont have the money to do that but still. The people that do still have a love for VW's and know what they like and what they want there car to look like its just they have money to through at the car.

I LOVE SCENE & HATE SCENE!! It constantly changes and some things appeal to me and others dont. But it doesn't make me think its going downhill as i know it changes a couple of weeks down the line. :)

So stop moaning and follow the vw scene like a sheep but put a twist on it to create a scence that others copy (and so on and so on).

Kuszpit :) :)

the Scene is what you make of it!!!!!!!!! Just like life! If you are fed up with it why are you still driving a modified vw?????

If you like it you do it. If you dont like it then you dont like it!

the chance's are that someone somewhere has done it already

and I'm with them as the other 3 post's above me say

The Scene will change just like fashion. you either like it or dont! If you didnt like them bright green shoe's you wouldnt of brought them would you!

Edited by wheelmanWayne

at the end of the day people see other cars and like the look of them and they want theres too look like that and make there car unique to them and think theres is special one off etc.. but the scene or fashion as you like to refer it as . has been around since new age modding came about.

bbs shoes and slamming any VAG car is the done thing and theres nothing wrong with it. you see it pass you and it makes you think its not just your bog standard car.

people who step out of the box and dont follow trends want to make there car unique to the rest of the world out there and not just themselves they are the people who are going to stand out at shows and make magazine covers or what ever you into!

trends are just going to change like fashionable clothes it just takes more time because it takes more then an advertising campaign to change the look of the dub scene ! it takes one person to stand out to start the ball rolling ! its not going to be an over night thing and i dont think the scene at the moment is bad its nice to see more and more people get there bbs shoes on and follow the way of v dubs!

Thing is, people might just want to slam a Mk2 Golf on BBS, cause they like it, and not be even remotely involved in the 'scene'. But some people cant accept that..

Wayyyy too many haters.

i...am a man, full of love to give out

and flicking the rods

Everyone has there opinions ..i was 18 and a polo 6n2 hapened to come along which was cheap but i liked the shape etc and i sold my p reg old skool clio(best car everrr) and got the polo...I love borbet a's since the first time i saw themm..i love the stance a car gets when u lower it..i love angel eyes especaily at night.. i love the way when I'm driving throught wolverhampton people look at my car an I'm still only 18..people in there m3's turn an look..i went edition 38 an i have to say i was jealous when a 21 year old boi told me he paid 2,500 grand for his recaros but his dad paid and i dont believe in that..use your own wongaa however he had a nice lupo....forget the 1.8 20vt etc.my 1.4 16v gives me enough pull to get an andreniline rush and its perfect..before ed38..i wanted to win shows...now i jus want the cars i think wow id love to have 1 when i was a kidd..corrado..mk2 golf gti.. white old skool civic type r and the ultimate ferrari f355..

I still dont understand this mentality. Can someone please enlighten me?

I drive a car which i have adjusted in specification. I made these adjustments to suit me. It just so happens it was made by Volkswagen, who built a car i liked and saw more potential in. I came here to Club Polo initially for information from people who knew about the car and had already modified one,and i like to share what I've learnt in return.

But i couldn't care less for most other VW's - if the subject's cars,id rather speak to someone with a Hillman Imp than a MK3 Golf.

However,i usually opt to speak to people who drive regular,modern,boring,non-modified cars. Like everyone i know.

So what part of being on a VW site and driving a 'modified VW' (its been referred to as a 'dub' or something like that, what's that about?) makes me in the scene? Maybe i am,just didn't realise..

So I'm in the Volkswagen scene then? Owned. In that case I'm in the I'm in the Hovis scene too, blud!

after looking at all the cars from pic threads of ED38 i'm, just thinking.. everything looks the same :|

maybe cos that's all edition seems to be, slammed on shiny BBS with stretch or whatever but I'm getting a bit bored with it. i wanna see something different

tbh thats one of the downsides of going to single make shows and the main reason i dont go to them anymore, i would imagine you'd have the same prob if you were into fords and went to a ford show. I've seen a few stand out cars from the various e38 pics I've looked at, but not many. My fav was probably the blue/green flip painted mk4 with brown wheels, mk5 bumpers blended into mk4 ones. wierd combo that works really well

i know its already been said, but all the cars look 'the same' because the things they do to the car work.

i haven't been into that scene that long, probably just over a year now, but i've always liked jap cars n stuff.

all the people moaning should be making something else work for the scene :).

I'm happy with it, even if it is regurgitated ;D

Alex

Mikey sums my views up perfectly.

He's the best example.

I can imagine someone like him owning a Mk2 Golf for example, simply cause its a good car. It may be slightly lowered.. it may even have BBS wheels!

But it's just a car, there to serve it's purpose.

Someone would come up to him like ''wicked car man those wheels are so scene is it on airride or are bags for fags? you need some more poke ftw and a pink sticker if you're a sheep LOLOLOL.....''

And he'd just be like ''........wut?''
