i may of bitched about bbs splits making cars all look the same but after a weekend at ed38 i see why people go with them tbh, there wasn't one car that i can think of that had them on that didn't look good with them on.

I like these BBS wheels :-)

I dont like the other kind, cant see their appeal either :?

Dont F1 cars use BBS quite alot?

Granted the F1 wheels are probly some ubertainium.

Most BBS do look good on a car, overdone, so what...its a good look.

the vw scene is turning to shit....imo...its reached its peak...way to many wanabies....trying to be so different and failing.....

original factory fresh.oem theme is the future i reckon.

none of this crap checkered wheel dishes

just my view

Bingo.

In my honest opinion, I think the standard of the top cars is so high that it's difficult for people without massive disposable income to contend. So the alternative is to "rat" or just generally fuck up a car because it's cheap and will get you noticed.

There's so little soul and substance to some of these cars.

I'm out.

I disagree with your statement there Alex G40..

Personally...I have experience with mega budget modding, my car has set me back around the £600 mark and turns heads anywhere I go. You can achieve just as good a look as some of these boys who basically throw checkbooks and pound notes at their cars to get them looking so good if you have patience and know where to look and also have a keen eye for detail and are a bit daring and don't mind getting your own hands dirty.

For example, you see a few home spray jobs going on on here in some of the threads and they look shit-hot. I know I'll probably get flamed for saying this, and this isn't 100% true but mostly for myself...I much prefer to see a well executed "dub" that all the work or the majority thereof is done by the owner itself, whether or not they work within the trade is irrelevant. But personally, I get more satisfaction out of seeing someone's car which has had hard work, lots of time and effort put into it personally than someone who has simply chucked it in a body shop, said what they want and payed for it. (Like I said, this isn't 100% as there are some stunning show cars and obviously the quality of the work is guaranteed to be higher, I just prefer the effort.)

I was talking about the "rat" scene with a friend today, and we both agree, there is absolutely no need to "rat" a car for looks for the plain and simple fact that you do not have enough money. If you want attention, get to grabbing the bargains and put some funking effort in for once.

my cars just a few slightly rare bits put on to a

£250 matt orange shitter :)

but i love it :D

flat paint, crazy comic interior, low as fook, furry roof lining, 2nd hand leathers, custom roof paint and i get noticed :) best thing is i dont think i've spent more than £300 apart from my wheels just alot of hours put into it by me and help from a few friends..

cheap home builds FTW

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.. e30s. ;)

david.

i could only be bothered reading the first page but I'm sure you wouldnt find it boring if you could afford to modify or run one of these show cars!

if you think its the same old stuff, stop jumping on trends and do something that YOU like and thats different.

you have to be inventive!

checkers, banded steels, bright colours, all a trend!

think outside the box

i think 'Rays' and 'Avus' wheels are used abit.

1) I built my 1.6 16v MK2,complete as it is and should be,for under two grand. And i could've done it for half that, had i not been fussy.

2) I like ATS classics. So much, that i dont care how common they apparently are - i dont see any. Rod Stylz has a MK1 Polo slammed on them, who else in Milton Keynes? Couple of people, including Lupo owners, never see them.

They're common so they should be everywhere right? No,Halfords wheel trims are everywhere.. I wanna see some classics.

I dont expect to have to go to a car show to see them,i wanna see these cars out on the road and BBS are only common in the form of standard Golf wheels on a standard Golf. I wanna see splits once in a while, and i wanna see them on Saxon Street.

I know of 4 cars in Mk with ATS Classics...wouldnt say there were commen tho...just people see them on polo's on here quite a few times so think there 'commen' but polo's make up about 1% of the modified scene so wouldnt say any wheel is overly 'Commen'

i wouldnt say i was part of the scene...i enjoy the look of my car lowered so i lowered it...i like Oz turbos so i brought a set (plus they wont lose too much on resale value )...

and Rod Stylz is on banded steels atm IIRC :ninja:

I agree and disagree...

A) Like you said, some people just dont have the daft amounts of money to build a show-stopping car, so just do OTT daft things to get attention.

B) Some people actually dont give a shit about getting noticed, or what anyone is the 'scene' thinks about their car, and literally just want to do what they want.

C) 99% of the time, A and B will be tarred with the same brush.

And now people are saying OEM is the way forward...

Forward to what?? being accepted by the crowd? getting a feature in a magazine?

Why cant people just turn a deaf ear and do what they want to their own car?

Why cant others let people get on with it and stop moaning about other peoples cars?

Yawn.. even threads about the 'scene' are boring these days.. jesus christ, Jap Ftw........

Right on dude.

It's annoying to think of how many people build their cars to please other people. I think even I can admit that sometimes I think 'oh I'm gonna look like a dick if I do that' and sometimes that will refrain me from doing a certain mod.. when really that fear of judgement shouldn't even be a factor in my decision.

People should just literally do whatever the fuck they want to their cars to make themselves happy, no matter whether it has never been done before or been done a million times over.

And love it or hate it, everyone else should just accept and respect the fact that that person has decided to be themselves and not be influenced by any scene sheep and the likes.

i feel the same way, fuck what other people think, its your car you do it how you want it! fuck the bad comments

Jap Ftw........

tbh, the scene is gay anyways.

Was looking through PVW earlier. the one lad in there, Thatcher. That article made me laugh. Its a golf on some dishy wheels with some rather hot tarts leaning on it.

Reason the hot tarts where there, the car was that scene it was boring, thus the need for the distraction

The scene is golf. if its not golf its not liked by the masses. if you want to be scene and want to get a mag feature, buy a standard golf, put some BBS on and waheeyyy.

My advice if shows etc are boring you, go abroad

The cars in Germany are quality, rather scene but they have all the little custom touches that make them way better.

sorry mate but that's bullshit, your confusing pvw with the scene. i agree that its always the same old shit (and editors mates) getting features in pvw, but if you go to some of the uk shows you will see that there is much more to it that just fitting some bbs's. with mags you get shown what they want to show you, at a show its your choice what you see so you don't just have to look at the smoothed bbs'ed up golfs, there are so many different types of vag cars done in different styles with plenty of custom touches to keep you occupied.

ed38 this year had its fair share of pvw styled cars, but there was so much more on offer too including some real nice air cooled metal and some pimp ass mercs ect. plus there was some real tasty polo's, roccos, audi's, skoda's, there was even a tidy little nova there too

But the main scene is golf and BBS.

Yes there are the odd few that are different but not enough IMO.

Every scene gets boring after a while I guess. That's not down to the scene its self, its down to you seeing the same old all the time.

After being in the mini scene for 2 years or so, the VW scene is massive and much better. But it still gets boring after a while.

I don't know what people expect!

If someone turned up to ED38 in a wide arched polo with a whale tail they'd probably have their car trashed. And yet everyone is saying "do different" well why would people who do do different things bother turning up to shows when they're put off on every forum (i'm on anyway) by people who want different things!?!?!?

It's a catch22... want new styles in the "scene"... my advice is for the people on the forums to stop attacking those who do think outside the box... as they're never gonna go to the shows are they!!!!!!

Makes me laugh, 90% of people are trying so hard 'Not to be scene' that they dont realise that 'Scene' is what the majority do...

therefor thursting themselves so far up the scenes arse they think there 'Original'

Your not original if you've got

BBS spits on a mk2 golf or illuminus (sp) rims or stupidly lowered car or comic book/porno your headliner the list goes on!

end of the day if your bored of it dont bitch for 8 pages on a 'scene' website do something about it!

Go jap, Go french...Go have sex with a Thai hooker?!

It pisses me off when people complain about boredom and say there's nothing different in the scene, and all you see is BBS and golfs etc etc.

If your losing that much sleep about it, get off your arse and do something about it, and do something different with your own car, instead of complaining about other people not doing anything different with theirs.

lol, I'm not loosing sleep over it. Just a bit of banter.

I like to think my cars different just because of the paint job. Weather other people think that is anyone's guess.

Good on you mate. Good to know your making your car for yoursef and not for others!
