Some people can actually own and drive modified VW's that would be considered 'scene' and widely accepted by the masses, but also mocked for being a sheep and not being original..

The whole time, the owner is unaware of all that sillyness and arrogance, cause he or she is too busy enjoying their car.

Prior to that people were putting bright white alloys on their escorts in the 70s and people had pin striping in the 30s on hotrods. VERY few things are NEW these days everything is about fashions and they all come and go and come back around!

so true.....its all about having fun in my opinion!! There's nothing better than working your ass of on some stupid idea and sitting back and enjoying what you've done!! I say if you disagree with the current 'trends' then good for you...its means your differant and you are the type of person that may contribute to the next set of 'trends'....if you like the 'trends' then you like them....you cant help not liking a nice set of split wheels with some silly low car sitting on them....

I say 'trends' because I think that the 'scene' is mainly whats cool at a certain point in time.....and it seems that people are hating lots at the moment. So the scene is un-popular! Oh dear. Also lots of chavs are joining the VW group I think due to the whole 'euro' craze which has made some shows a bit shabby....thats personally why I dont like the scene at the moment....cuz of all the pen15'5555555555!

1 person in a town having orange wheels was unusual and stood out as different with perhaps only a small number of people liking it but most people wondering why he did it.

1000 people in the uk having orange wheels and them all being part of the same club it becomes cool amoungst them and is somehow considered forward thinking or "groundbreaking" whilst the other 99% of people think it looks silly having orange wheels.

That is what the "SCENE" is in a nutshell.

Hence why most people have more fun building cars that they want and how they want it rather than trying to build a car that will get universal praise from a group of people who have never built and most likely never will build a car that is unique and to their taste but that of others

If someone turned up to ED38 in a wide arched polo with a whale tail they'd probably have their car trashed. And yet everyone is saying "do different" well why would people who do do different things bother turning up to shows when they're put off on every forum (i'm on anyway) by people who want different things!?!?!?

It's a catch22... want new styles in the "scene"... my advice is for the people on the forums to stop attacking those who do think outside the box... as they're never gonna go to the shows are they!!!!!!

agree with you 100%, I've almost always gone for a non vag look for my cars, as to be honest i find them a bit boring. my main reason for owning one is more to do with reliability and performance, I've never been into going to vag shows. the only ones i will bother are the ones that include both air and water cooled and even then, i'd still rather go to a classic or retro car show, as there is so much more variety.

most other polo owners went ape shit when i put picks up of my polo with something different to the norm, i never saw want was so offencive about it though, its not like i fitted a mecano spoiler to it

then i got bored and decided to go for a different style and everyone moaned that bright green wheels, bumper stripes and badges was daft

funny how they seem to be so popular now

i dont care whats in or out, i just like messing about with cars, I'm not interested in getting mag features and I'm certainly not fussed about pleasing anyone else bar myself. Oh and before anyone brands me a chav for not having a conventionally styled vw, I've got one of those too, but only because i wanted to have a go and making a genuine OEM+ styled car

I am not in the so called "scene", mine is a standard 1.4(still in college), I buy a lot of mags and go trough the mayor forums/websites. You can see as time passes trends tend to change, older trends come back and newer ones are evolved sort of. My guess is also the availability of different parts and accessories, that are put on market will effect the present scene and so on.

It's cool to be different, but it will undoubtly be copied sometime or another, so really the best thing is to do the mods you really like, it's your car afterall.

Personally I think everyone should do what they like to their own cars and not be affraid to try anything new/different to seperate them from the crowd.

Whenever i try something new I only ask a couple of my mates to see if they think it will work or not. I always say ""you do what you want to your car, your the one who drives it, dont listen to the haters".

Also I think you dont have to spend mega money to have a stunning and noticeable car. Atm I think theres too much hate in the scene and theres too many people sitting back and slatting people for trying new things.

My mates grandad has a 6n, and he's definately not part of the Scene but what if it randomly had some euro style wheels? or the previous owner had put pressed plates on?

Like, at what point does he become part of the scene?

I think the problem is, alot of people that say they're part of the scene try to claim rights to stuff. Like BBS wheels are 'scene'.. so as soon as someone puts some BBS wheels onto a VAG car, they're automatically a member of the Scene, and leave themselves open for bitching, name calling etc etc bla bla...

exactley mate, no-one will be able to please everyone, theres alwaysa going to be at least one person who hates what you do, your car, your style, your the one who drives it at the end of the day :)

With regards to the orange wheels, I'd never seen another car with orange wheels until I painted mine.

Not saying I started it, but once I had done it I noticed quite a few more Polos doing the same thing on here.

Same with everything though indy.

I never noticed polos until I had one.

I realized how good orange was back in the day when the ST came out. When I had my mini mayfair with plans to spray it blue n orange and call it Jaffa

Now I'm doing similar just on the polo and with less orange.
