None of the dials on the polo mk3 1.0l i'm doing up illuminate, any ideas as I'm not very good with electrics? Everything else electrical works btw, including the LED warning lights under the dials.

this happend on my mk4, not a clue if its the same but u can turn the brightness up an down using a reel on the right of the steering wheel, just look around to see if u can turn it back on.

I turned mine off for a month and thought it was a fuse or sumin, but found i could turn it up and down using the spinny thing lol

If not check fuses

I wondered what that spinny thing was for. I've rolled it both ways though and nothing happens. Will have to consult the haynes about fuses as electrics aren't my strong point (i can change one, I'm not that bad!) But whether i change the right one or not is a different matter

Probably a switch problem, but check your fuses.

maybe the spinny thing u was plying with was the hight of you are dip beam and theres another one nextto or near it for the dials, u can tell if a fuse is blown by lookin at it from the side and if the strand of metal that connects the two metal sides has a break in it, if that makes sense?

i think it was the adjuster for the headlights, although it didn't seem to adjust the beam in the slightest, but it is right underneath the switch for the lights. I'll have a look at the fuses when its dry next....which prob means next summer going off the weather at the mo

Could be. How do i get at the bulb to check?

You will need to remove the clocks, remove the plastic that surrounds the steering column, then either get 2 bits of bent wire coat hanger and push into the holes on the side of the clocks (radio removing things also fit) or remove your head unit and unclip it from the back for the other side remove the vent and do the same, pull clocks slowly foward, there could be enough flex in the cable to allow you to just change the lights, if there isnt place your hand down the centre back and unplug them so they come right out.

they are 509T bulbs, common on ebay and come in all colours, pop out the clocks and you'll see them at the top (normally black and round/hexagonal)

i have a spare set of clocks 5a their urs

all my right side of the dials light up, just my speedo side doesent. so looks like I'm ripping my clocks out today then lol

Clocks all work fine, just the light that doesnt, cheers for the offer though.

my dials don't seem to want to come out. Have tried the wire things for gettin a radio out and they didn't work, so tried going in through the stereo and the vent and could get the stereo side to free up a bit but the other side wont budge at all. I can't see what its catching on or anything as cant see in there. Any suggestions?

managed to get the dials out and change the bulbs at last, only problem is i cant get the dials back in now. I've got them in far enough to drive the car, but they wobble about everywhere and the speedo has stopped working now when it worked fine before

takes a bit of fiddling. the speedo isnt a big problem, its just that the drive cable hasnt slotted into the back of the clock properly. when fitted back there should be click.

as you said, the cable hadn't clicked in properly. speedo works fine again now, although the bulbs still don't. think that green film circuit board that holds the lights is damaged. Anyone know if a new one of these circuits is available and if they can be fitted easily or not? Have tried GSF and they couldn't help. for now i've just put some led's on the dash pointing at the clocks so i can see them, although they are far too bright
