My predicament precisely is that i can only get conti's in 195/45 atm (my awesome sp9000's are no longer made in this size i don't think), and 175/50's are also around £60 a corner - 175 60's would make a better size for gearing, and so long as grip/looks are fine it could be a winner. A539's at £33 a corner...

Yeah, 175x60 are standard G40.

Mine are 185x60 which are standard XR2, very close but on 5.5in rims so i cant be of much help.

175/60's look a bit balooned on a 7 inch rim mate .

I would save for some 175/50's i have them on my 7's and my 8's ..

Bloody expensive things though :(

I'm not going for looks completely, i want some grip and don't like tyres being too stretched. I'm still lost for what size to use; i want to keep 13's (2x8" 2x7") but have tyres that dont give a tiny o/d. 185/60 might be ok for an 8", but then i'm still stuck on the 7's... possibly 175/60.

Could be onto a winner there,a bit of sidewall and slight stretch gives some 70s motorsport flavour on a dished rim.

Seen some Avon 205x60 cut slicks on some 8x13 Alleycats and they looked pure 70s racetrack,totally fit for purpose and sorting the Escort right out.

Bit of a gamble catching the look with Yokos/whatever but might be worth spending a bit more time thinking out the box with this one before you order some scene-issues.

185 55s all round should look a treat, sidewall is pretty close to that of a 175 60 but with a shade more girth. as fitted to Metro Gti's on a 6j rim
