Hi all,

before i start i want to make sure you all know i was not using my phone, it was in my pocket, so not even near my hands.

today on the way home from work i was stuck in traffic and a police car was coming towards me, the policewoman slowed down, told me to wind my window down and said (loudly/aggresively)

'that is a criminal offence, you can get 3 points and a £60 pound fine for using your phone!'

i replied ' i wasnt using it, its in my pocket, i swear on my life'

she said 'dont lie to me! that is a criminal offence!'

I said ' I'm sorry'

and she drove off.

so i was like what the f! and its confused the hell outa me. i got home and my dad asked if she took my plate and i dont think she did. if she did could i receive a fine in the post, or do they only issue on the spot fines for this offence.

I'm pretty sure it was a warning but just want to make sure.

any help greatly apreciated

That will be just a warning matey. If she wanted to fine you, you would have been pulled over for an on-the-spot. That's how these are dealt with now.

If your on contract ask you phone company to sent you a call break down just incase, as she would need to have recorded time and date of offence.

it felt like she was giving me a good telling off and i thought that she would fine me there and then, felt like a warning. so hopefully i wont recieve any thing in post. eek!!

she would need some evidence that you were using it. Call records, video footage etc.

and had a similar thing happen to me the other day,

i was accused of not wearing my seatbelt by an arragont copper,

i allways wear my seatbelt no matter how short a journey!

anyways was driving to work the other day and got followed for a couple of miles and i thought here we go!,

so eventually they pulled me over and an officer aproached my window and said " is there any reason why you haven't been wearing your seatbelt?"

at the time i was wearing it! and i replied well you can see that I'm wearing it now, and i have been for the whole journey!

then he accused me of lying and said i had just put it on when he pulled me over!

anyways we argued for a bit and eventualy he told me that i was lucky this time but i wont be the next!

my experience was similar to this, but the fuzz were convinced i went through a red light. on my life i swear it was amber when i went through it. i know i amber gambled, and that maybe i could have stopped in time but at the end of the day.. how can you be guilty of going through a red light when it was on amber.. no matter how 'unsafe' all the driving experts may claim my move to be. the line was really far behind from the actual junction and so it looked like i had jumped the light as i went round the corner a few seconds after the lights had changed. fuzz pull me over and try and tell me i went through the red light. i was adamant that i didn;t and tried arguing but the copper said i did and that he would go to court and testify so. i didnt really want to argue with that! so i accepted what he said and got off with a written warning.

it really peeved me off though, and only after i started driving home did i realise that there were red light cameras on the junction i went through! which would have gone off had i actually jumped the light! gutting

I was pulled over by this cop who was by him self. he said that he had been tailing me for a mile (part on a 70 road, then a 50 road, and finally a 30. I crossed a round about and negotiated 2 junctions before he flashed me down) he hadnt been right behind me but reckoned he had worked out my average speed since he first clocked me (on the 70 road) and i must have been speeding.

I smelt bull myself. He wouldnt do anything more than tell me off because he couldnt. talking out of his bottom.

Had that myself once, he was in an Astra, so I asked him since when panda cars were equipped with calibrated speedos and VASCAR.

Told me not to be clever, totally went off on one then got in his car and drove off.

i got pulled once for two days previously apparentely "speeding over speedhumps" bearing in mind id chopped my springs in half, this guy who was a traffic officer threatened me with a section 59 until i asked him wheres the evidence? then he backed down. and i tootled off home 5mph below the speedlimit :).

You've just had a warning.

If you were going to get a fine and points she'd have given you a ticket there and then, or at least told you that you were going to be reported for summons.

my boyfriend got pulled over a while ago

they told him off for his number plate- they said 3d lettering is illegal...which is bull becuase we make number plates at work with 3d lettering and thats all dvla legal.

and also they told him he must have the wrong bulbs in the tail lights as they are too bright....they are just the standard bulbs.

they must do it for the thrill! i bet she turned to the other cop after and said "told you id do it"

I wouldnt worry though, as everyone else says they would of gave you a ticket or sumthing like that on the spot.

lol i was parked in a layby and some woman copper drove in and parked in front made me get out and started checking all my details (Id been there a while so she hadnt followed me from anywhere) so when she left i was like wtf

My gf's sisters boyfriend is a copper, and sometimes he gets pulled up, they give it all the mouth and he lets them carry on then when they getting all smarty with him he just pulls out his warren badge.. LOL

I mean how good would that be, the look on there face would be mint!

If he was doing something he shouldn't be he would still get shafted regardless if hes a copper or not.

Its just a warning mate, most likely won't have even gone on the system.

And they wonder why we hate them and say they think they're above the law Prick, I hope he gets run over by a driver on a mobile phone, who then turns out to be an off duty waste of space, erm, I mean an off duty copper, who gets waved on scott free by the police because he got his magic card out.
