2001 (Y) 6N2 - 1.4 8v Charging Problem

Featured Replies

Hey Guys

When driving my 6N2 home last night i've developed a bit of an electrical problem.

As i was going around a pretty tight roundabout my battery light came on and then stayed on before flickering off a few hundred yards later and continuing to flicker on and off for the next three miles. Then it turned itself back off completely.

I continued to monitor the dials and it stayed off for the final few miles home but as i turned around in my street the ABS light came on.... then the airbag light etc. When i turned the dials off all the lights went out (including warning lights) so i turned them back on and the warning lights came back on.... so i turned the radio off and the seatbelt light went off... then turned the fans off and the ABS light went off etc then flashed main beam and everything went off etc - my theory is that the system shuts down units one by one as the battery runs low leaving you to be able to still drive home?

I left the car running with no electrics on to check the possible fault and slowly the battery has died to a near enough complete death so i'm guessing an alternator problem but because the inital light came on from a sharp turn and since turning off has remained off i'm wondering if maybe a earth could be at fault.

Any common probs with the 6N2 that i should investigate? I haven't had change to get a multimeter on it yet.

theck the output from the alternator with a test meter with the engine running you should have a minimum of 13.8 volts any less and its not charging correctly

you should be able to get replacement brushes for the alternator if it is not charging

Hey Bud,

I know its been a while, but any joy with this problem? I 've had the same issue and have had the battery and alternator checked and they are both fine. I read a thread on edition that its a common fault. Its something to do with the wiring loom and the connection. But cuz its been so long i cant find the thread.

I still have the issue and need to get it fixed. If you have tha same issue as mine, as soon as your warning lights come on then give it some big revs and they should turn.....
