hi guys i'm new to this and i'm just about to buy a 6n polo that wont go into 5th gear i know it could be the gear box thats wrong but what else could it be before i buy it. :-D

its a 1.9 diesel

linkage is not correctly alligned maybee ?

yeah my 6N was the same, the linkage was fuck, the tow part that could be worn one part is like £47 and the other is around £55 odd, pop in to you local VW and they will show you what you need, get it fixed ASAP because mine keept disconnecting while trying to get in to gear and going down the motor and the linkages goes is not fun lol the AA can do a quick fix with a cable tigh but that will brake soon after lol

So yer, check to see if any of the linkAge is loose on the gear box side, if not try re aligning the linkage. Not sure how on polo but prob same as a corrado if it's a cable change set up...

Remove gear gater an there should be some sort of nut holding it all together, loosen it then move gear stick all the way right to left to right etc.. Then re tighten nut.
