For those who moan about fuel prices.

Featured Replies

The fuel company have to spend millions searching for an oil well or buying stakes in one. A lot of the time this includes building new oil rigs.

They then have to extract the oil and ship it to a factory on the other side of the world.

They then have to refine the oil in a long process which costs millions, turning it into fuel / gas e.t.c.

They then have to sail a ship to collect the fuel and transport it all the way back to the UK.

They then have to unload and distribute the fuel to each warehouse and then each truck, in order for delivery to each station.

For all of this, we pay around one pound per litre.

I went to Tesco's yesterday, bought a litre of water for 79p.

mate are you for real? this is not about the fuel companies making a profit, its about the government ass raping people that are already struggling to put food on there table because of the retarded dead heads that have been charged with running this country, this is why every time this subject rears its ugly head it always turns to a brown bashing!

just out of curiosity do you still live at home with your parents?...

Morrisons Fuel is not British Standard marked and god knows where it comes from really, when my car fucked up a few weeks back the fuel was my first point of call, got my uncle to test it at the council depot, after being tested i was shocked when the tester had written in the comments box "I would not use this in a lawnmower, never mind a car".

Something like 15% petroleum, 25% Bio-Ethanol, 20% light oils, 30% Misc, 10% Cleaning additive.

My plugs had a layer of varnish on them so had to get new ones, fuel filter was full of gunge (new week before), had to pump neat cleaner through the pumps to clean them & leave the injector soaking in some, clean out my inlet manifold...

It isnt even petrol anymore, they buy cheap "waste" fuel then water it down as much as possible with additives so that it can still "run" in a car, then they sell it at the same price as everywhere else while creating for themselves a huge profit margin.

Most of the staff at the store no longer fill up there, and all the mechanics i know warn people away from it.

Who gives a shit about 1liter of water is 79p, Get your water out of a tap, its cheaper. We can only get our petrol from one place. To bring the price down you have to stop using the big petrol companies services and go to Asda and Morrisions etc. (Not Tesco though).

Erm. And why do you think they are cheaper? hey? I can't stress enough how you shouldn't fill up at supermarkets.

And where do you think they get it from?! Total oils have the remains of a refinery near Hemel Heampstead,Shell have one near Chester, where's Asda's one then? Id love to know..

Incidentally,Asda are owned by the Americans and Tesco are owned by the British. So you'd rather send our money abroad, where they can spend the cash on friendly fire?

I'm assuming you can afford to replace most of your fuel system every few weeks them. Did you not bother reading my post above yours.

Also you get a lot less MPG with it. on £15 of supermarket fuel i got lot less than £15 of decent fuel, and there is or price difference any more. I would rather pay 1.50 a litre (god helps us) for Texaco, Shell etc than fill up with Morrisons fuel @ 1.09.

There's nothing wrong with Tesco fuel... Costcutter and Save are rubbish

TBH i agree with you on that, Tesco high octane and never had problems with Sainsbury or Asda with any of the cars, just Morrisons.

i was just saying to my mate about this and he works in the esso refinary in the new forest, and he said that every day that part of the main refinary goes down they loose millions... just shows the sort of profits they are making!

I doubt they "loose millions".. they probably just loose the chance to make millions. There is a difference. Greedy b4stards either way.

Isnt there any legislation for a fuel provider to disclose what their fuel cosists of?

Just brimmed it .... Tesco 104.9 / l :( still god tonnes of points for it :)

Aaaahhhh. Them poor oil companies. I feel really sorry for them. All those impoverished execs living on the street and having to beg for a can of tennants. Does anyone one know where I can send my donation to? :crybaby:

FUCK OFF.

Don't be a prick.

Thanks.

not sure how it goes int the UK

but in holland, there is about a 150% tax on gas.

it only costs about 40 euro cent per liter.

the rest is TAX!

diesel is the new petrol.

I went dubai and petrol there is equivalent to 35p a litre :D the uk goverment import the fuel into the uk for roughly about the same price the rest is vat on top of it there right robbing idiots. its same with cigarettes they import them in cheap the rest is vat on top !

Petrol hasn't really changed around my area, am getting around 104, which is still expensive.

I've never had a problem running a 120bhp bike on Tesco fuel, and it was very picky on what it ran well on. Total fuel made it run like a pile of shit, whereas I couldn't tell the difference between Tesco, BP, Shell fuels.

i run my polo on morrisons fuel most the time and nothings wrong with it as far as i can tell its just as good as any other fuel still makes my car drive and isnt that the general idea?? :?

It runs but the Bio Ethanol content will degrade rubber seals and pipes in the fuel system quicker, it also causes varnish deposits to build up, it doesn't burn efficiently due to the shit in it, and you will see your plugs soot up quickly and have various other issues over time, poor emissions/burnt out catalyst, sooty exhaust tip etc.

I see the complaints (many from staff), almost all the staff in the store shun away from using the petrol station.

I stripped an AFH today which had very little wear. It was a final edition version, direct drive oil pump and post-millenia con-rods but it was still ten years old.

Still, the carbon was unreal. I spent over an hour cleaning carbon etc from the pistons and valves,I've never seen it so bad.

It must've been close to death.

If this is the result of bio-contamination (though more likely sooty sensors, given the state of the inlet manifold/throttle,which is typical of the sealed unit/unadjustable EFi favoured by commercialism, instead of having an adjustable system so you can maintain its original efficiency) then its bad news fast approaching for anyone using this junk fuel.

diesel is the new petrol.

yep. i remember when i was a youth diesel was like half the price of petrol... but this was in the days before diesel cars became fashionable, so now they are they can charge what they like for it. the saving grace is (for some diesel owners any way) is that there cars can be run on veg oil.

I agree that the oil companies are making ridiculous profits out of us already, despite the fact that they don't see all of the money that we pay at the pump. Economy of scale, blah blah, its been said. The oil companies are not some unsung heroes delivering us petrol at great personal cost and we should not be eternally thankful.

Then again, I don't mind paying taxes, provided it's spent properly. That 65% you pay at the moment is not spent properly. Services like the NHS and council housing are useful, paying for MP's second homes + moats and paying for bailing out incompetent/suicidally greedy bankers is something else. So, we spend more than half our petrol money on an idiotic government, and we have to pay tax on our cars too, like we weren't being hammered enough.

Both sides are bending us over here.

Soot/Carbon build up seems to be the most common symptom of high Bio-ethanol poor quality fuel, you also get varnish build ups on the plug reducing spark efficiency, on the injector causing an uneven spray and on the inlet valves causing poor inlet flow, all contributing to poor combustion.

Mikey: Did the plugs and valves have a dark slightly polished tint to them?

I paid little attention to the valves,as i was using my old head (ported). That had sandy-grey valves.

But the new one had new plugs, though i still had to clean black soot from them and the electrode was shiny.

This pic is of my 1.6 BCB pistons after a couple of thousand miles running bike carbs. They were running a bit lean, and show signs of this on the thrust side of the piston (They also have a sheen of WD40 on them, from cleaning the deck).

This second pic is of said new AFH engine, taken during cleaning. Id already brushed the scrapings off once..
