Hey guys.

i'm a huge fan of the original polo's, i dont like it how cars get bigger as they get newer.

the first 3 models are the best imo. the 6n and 6n2 are both cool too, but mk 6/7 are a bit too modern and don't work as well, but, i want people to prove me wrong

Ditto. I've not seen a decent polo i liked higher then 6n2 AT ALL. So i'll be keeping my eye on this thread.

How not at all, the mk1 has similar-ish lines to the mk1 golf, obviously not exactly the same. And the mk2 polo looks like a smaller mk2 golf.

i suppose mk1 polos/golfs look similar, but they still have a lot of character which i like. i just think new polos and golfs are boring.

i agree older polos mk1 mk2 mk3 are the best out of them all to me the fav is mk1 :-D then mk3 like mine the newer the model gets the bigger it seems to get .

plus less to go round on a older car who needs leki windows and abs

10,000 miles since January in a Coupe S. No complaints from me.

TBH, after a Mk4, stop thinking of the Polo as the replacement for the Polo if that makes sense? To my mind, the Lupo replaced the mk4 polo. Yeah, they're alright to drive, in a generic modern car kinda way, but lack the character of mk1's and 2's, and good as they are on reliability, there's that weak engine to be thinking about all the time.

I hate these kinds of threads, but I'm guna reply...

All depends, with good engineering they are all have pros and cons, polo 1s , 1fs, 2s and 2fs are ok, with tweaking are good cheap cars to run and gain performance from, but are getting old,

Where as later polos are better engineered cars, better performance because of better engines and suspension design and generaly more reliable for these reasons. Although i really enjoy owning a mk1 polo for many reasons, (mk1 polo.com )I dont really care about any old school scene as I would trade my mk1 for any well prepared later polo and I would kill for an s1600.

Idealy i would escape from the vw scene and buy a mk2 escort or something similar, but obvioulsy i don't have the mular....

i like older golfs/polos, there lighter, easy to work on, look cooler, i might even start a hole new argument and say that there quicker :p
