1.0 to 1.6

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I have had a 1.0 6n2 for nealry 18 months now and i think its time for an upgrade.

What are the best engines to fit in these polos?

i was thinking adding the 1.6 gti tbh but i would like your opinions.

Also what parts are required to convert from 1.0 to 1.6.

Trip to scrappers on weekend me thinks!!!

Thanks in advance guys.

Anyone?

Hey, I'm pretty sure there is a topic on the forum somewhere for this, so I'm just saying so before some mardarse has a go at you for re-posting!

erm, you will need a written off gti tbh, rear end damage or something, all the engine and components, ECU, Brakes upgrade etc...

the gearbox is the same across the 6n2 range (i think) and for costs i wouldn't say more than 1500, probably a bit less if you bargain hunt and do some work yourself... I've been thinking about this upgrade myself, but as i am about to start uni, i know i won't be able to afford it...!

good luck :)

EDIT: you are right about the best engine IMO, 1.0 - 50bhp --> 1.4 8v 60bhp not much point. 1.4 16v is either 75bhp or 100bhp so not a bad improvement, but for a bit more cash you can get the 125 bhp gti engine, which should be a nice improvement...

a 1.8T conversion would be around about £5000 at best, and supercharging/ turbo'ing other engines isnt usually worth the money or hassle in most peoples opinions...

if you do this get a progress thread up :)

if u want a faster car get a new 1 its cheaper & to do an engine swap insurance gna have to know. 1.8T is the best engine to go in though

yeah, i saw a 1.8t converted car on here going for £5700, you could tell the owner had thrown loadsa money at the car aswell... so its probably better to buy a new car! :)
