All my brakes are due replacement on the GTI

so am considering performance ones, either front and rear or just front??

Green stuff pads front and probably back, cheapest is about 39 quid front n 36 rear. Anyone know anywhere??

Disks, drilled n grooved EBC again, 100 quid a pair fronts and i think it was 60-70 pair of rears

Anyone know any diecent sites to buy brakes from? Any other makes people are using? Any cheaper brands out there? All round performance or just front?

Notice any difference. i.e worth the upgrade?

i have green stuff pads, there great in terms of brake dust :)

if you want performance disks, crossed drilled are your best bet, i know someone who has them on a polo and there brilliant!, not sure what make he had though!

yeah i herd the lower brake dust is a plus point!

I'm currently putting new pads, discs and hoses on mine. I got some drilled and grooved fronts on ebay for £60 with greenstuff front pads and ultimax rears.

Don't know how its guna turn out, should be better than before though.

Have you thought about doing a 280mm conversion at the same time..? I need discs and pads all round at the minute and have had the G60 carriers lying around for a while so I'm going to use some performance drilled Corrado G60 fitment discs and pads - most probably Ferodo. I'm then gonna use Halfords discs on the rear (I get them really cheap as I work there) and I got some new EBC Green stuff rear pads with the car when I bought it which i will be using. I personally dont feel the expense of drilled discs on the rear is worth it on such a small car and is more for the looks.

I did an Audi TT 312mm brake upgrade on my previous Bora and noticed a big difference not only with the bigger brakes but also the drilled discs definately didnt suffer from brake fade as badly at all.

One thing I would say is a friend did a GTI brake upgrade on his Lupo (so there now the same size as Polo GTI brakes) and used Halfords discs all round with Ferodo pads and they are very powerful, I was surprised. There much better than my Polo brakes which fair enough mine are due a replacement but do still have a bit of life left in them. I'm personally not going to be spending loads on "performance" discs as i dont think there really needed for my driving. Tbh the drilled discs on the front will more be for the looks as it is a small car...

pretty much backed up what i was thinking, no point in getting rear performance brakes, as the way i drive i cant see it making much difference!

think al go for some green stuff pads all round, with some EBC Grooved disks up front. Just for fade free braking really

I did look at G60 brakes but its finding a set floating about. Doesnt really bother me that much.

I used to work at halfords so got one of those trade cards! How much are the disks? GSF gave me some discount so rear disks are 13 quid each

Was about to start a similar thread to this. I have next to no clue when it comes to brakes. I am doing up a 6n2gti which has had a bump and I'm thinking of adding drilled discs all the way around. Are venom motorsport about the cheapest? Any recommendations on where else to look?

I have had the BBS wheels sand blasted and painted, looking good as new. The calipers have been sand blasted and painted red, just need an idea on what to put with them to look both spick, and span. Any recommendations gratefully received.

I quite fancy grooved discs next time I need to change mine. I'm running standard discs all round with Black Diamond "Predator" brake pads. Really happy with the performance, to be honest its not much better than standard but there is a touch more bite and of course very little brake dust! OEM VW pads are awful for giving off loads and loads of thick black dust all over your clean wheels :(

greenstuff pads are shit, its a misconception that they dont give off alot of brake dust and compared to ferodos and pagids they are poop in comparison.

theres also been stories of the backing plates coming away from the pad material!

ferodos and standard discs would be fine, I've go for grooved over drilled as drilled can be prone to cracking, but even solid discs and a set of good pads, braided lines and fresh fluid should see you stopping very well

i agree with SAF, i got warned against green stuffs as there fragile and not particularly powerful until there warmed up lol! also they wernt that great at lowering the brake dust on my mates mk2 golf?

Thanks for that. Spent all night shopping around and comparing sites, I had dismissed performancebrakes.co.uk without getting to the basket stage.

I am going to give venom a ring tomorrow and see if they will beat the price because they have something on their site which says something along those lines.

If I am doing new discs and pads, is it worth doing the hoses at the same time? How much difference does it make?

Sorry to jump in on this but I'm thinking of doing a full fluid change at the same time as all discs and pads will be replaced so may aswell go the whole hog. Does anybody have any recommendations? I heard ATE Super Blue was the stuff to go for.

My last service at VW i asked them to do the fluid, so no idea what they used! Its nice and clean but no difference in feel to what i had in before!

Your suppose to change it every 2 years, mine didnt really need doing tbh. But if its not been done it'll make a difference.

Doubt you would notice much difference with hoses, If there braided apparently it makes the pedal feel more solid. If you have the rubber ones (like me) Mine have rubbed on the wheel abit. So will need changing out soon anyway.

well, fitted my new brakes 2day

Fronts only as i didnt have the tool to do rears.

Green stuff pads and EBC ultramax disks or whatever there called

impressed so far. Just bedding them in, Loads more response will be good when there bedded in!

Should get better when i do the rears, as there dished!

I'm running the drilled and grooved brake discs on a Polo GTi, the ones from eBay for about 60 quid.

I've gotta admit the performance is pretty good for a cheap set of brakes, no issues atall, no cracks or splits in the discs.

One regret though, I'm running the OEM brake pads as I couldnt wait to research whats best, when there due i may go for some performance pads to compliment the discs. Look min tbehind a set of BBS aswell!

i looked at them ebay ones, but the price put me off. to cheap i thought.

I think the ultramax ones are better quality..they come painted. High temp paint too. so they wont corrode for a while on the hub or the edge of the disk.

They've bedded in now. Very good :)

Shame there hidden behind my schmidts - tho come winter my RX2's will be back on

My green stuff pads are good too...they seem fine when cold - herd they pap when cold but mine are fine.

Admittedly they do get abit better when warm.
