hgi jus wondering I've been told that a g40 gearbox fits 1.4 16v jus wondering if any can comfirm that and whats the best g40 box code to go for for all roung good speed cheers

Best one for fitting into a 6n would be a CEK code.

G40 boxes are hard to geld hold of in any format, CEK code ones are hens teeth TBH.

They are no stronger than any other 085 boxes, but without the ghey 6n/6n2 output flange setup they should last longer. Never seen an older gearbox fitted to a newer polo. You might have to get drilled and tapped some holes for the 6n gear linkages????

Some people are pushing 200bhp out of them with little problem. They are no stronger.

As said , its the proper ghey 6n design of these which causes the weakness.

Here is a picture from Majic79's thread showing the FAIL and 6n flange set up. None of those bits occur in the older polo gearboxes.

Taper rings fail > diff bearings fail > main shaft bearings fail > gearbox fails
