i have a 2001 e polo, but it has no alarm. i was hoping someone migt be able to point me in the dirction of someone that fits them or a company that will fit them. also on which ones to buy. i live in middlesex. thanks for reading.

I'd suggest one which is thatcham approved. It'll have to be fitted by an approved fitter but will slightly lower your insurance. Toad and clifford are good brands to look at.

Safe 'n' sound fitted mine, will fit it at your house, and it's dirt cheap with a lifetime warranty.

Basically, I was told this by my alarm guy, and before anyone says he's bias towards other brands, he isn't, as he also fits clifford alarms, and he isn't my mate or anything. The problems other people have had will also back this up. They are also quite dumb alarms. My system locks the car after 10 seconds of the ignition, and then unlocks when you turn the ignition off, but you can always control it wiht your exisintg lock buttons on your drivers door, Clifford alarms override everything, and the only way to unlock your doors is to swtich the ignition off, what if you want to just quickly unlock the door to let your bird in and then set off? Clifford alarms just aren't as clever as they used to be before they went bust.

Basically, I am sure you have heard of the cheap alarm firm, Hornet (who are made by armour automotive)? Well basically Clifford went bust last year, and were bought by Armour Automotive, so now all the Clifford alarms are actually Hornet alarms in the Clifford casing. When you pull the casing apart, inside it's all Hornet, Hornet connectors, Hornet relays and sensors, and the key fobs now have a very cheap plasticy feel to them, and they are not waterproof like the Toad ones either.

There was a thread about all the people who have been having problems with Clifford alarms on edition, even babz off here, his remote popper has stopped working, and his is Clifford.

Most alarm firms are so adament that the clifford they fit will fail eventually, that they don't supply a lifetime warranty with them, like you get with Toad.

BTW Jon, Toad also do a remote start module.

as pretty much everything you have posted is complete rubbish

clifford have NOT gone bust they are now distributed in the uk by armour automotive

hornet alarms are made dy directed electronics which is the parent company of clifford

so hornet,clifford avital and viper are all made by the one company

cliffords are not rubbish i have been an approved clifford fitter for 15 years

most problems with clifford alarms are down to use error

as for being dumb

doors auto locking this is user adjustable and can be deactivated with the click of a mouse button via clifnet pc software

yes the old G3series back in the 90's had issues but the newer G4/G5 ranges are absolutely faultless

clifford alarms do have a lifetime warranty as it clearly states in the handbook

clifford alarms are NOT hornets they are completely different alarms

a hornet alarm is exactly the same as an avital alarm

and hornet/avital alarms are identical in facility spec as the toad

you say alarm fitters reckon they will go wrong in my years of experience an alarm fitter will only not reccomend a clifford if they don't know how the fit them correctly

i have done several alarms for forum members on here and not 1 has had an issue

yes toad do a remote star but it is a very basic antiquated system

I know of people who have had problems with your alarms, and you haven't done anything to sort them. Infact I was talking to a couple of them at edition, was either your alarms or central door locking kits.

You peel away the casing of a Hornet alarm, and a Clifford, side by side, and then you will see the difference.

Clifford alarms may have a lifetime warranty, but most fitters won't come to you to sort the problem, you have to go to them, to save them costs, as they know from the start something may go wrong.

And as I said, Clifford did go bust, and were then taken up by Armour Automotive.

And, on top of all that, this is the general chat section, so I can offer my opinion in my comments, and I was passing on what I was told.

If you want to know from experience, just find the thread on edition, simple as.

The guy above, well his username sums him up perfectly.

if you reckon they have had problems then why have i never had a single phone call all my work is fully guaranteed

and if there was an issue (which there has not been to date) then i trave to the customerl to fix the fault as long as it is not my fault i do not charge for a call out

i was at edition all weekend and wearing one of my works tops so if these so called people had issues why was i not approached ???

Needs central locking, anti-jacking, maybe remote start and the ability to fry anyone who trys to break in (if available!)

I have a G5 and its faultless, Indy at the end of the day if you buy the cheaper Clifford's thinking its going to beperfect its not, you get what you pay for!!!

Mikey - those the ones made by sparkrite? I had one of those years ago. Could open the door (unlocked), climb in and sitdown and the alarm wouldnt sound till you turned the key (or used anything electrical!) pretty pants and imo, probably wouldnt last long in this day and age!

Just unplug the king lead and take it with you everywhere, instant anti theft device.

if u want a budget alarm go to rclick its cheap but mostly works if u wire it properly (not the best instructions and hard to make neat cos of odd connections everywhere, like seperate earths

Mine used to do that. Had to rip wires out when the remote battery went dead! Ocassionally would bleep once or twice for no reason what so ever so i got rid of it.
