got a valver today... just wondering if the 1600 GTI block bolts straight to the AFH head...

would it need the useless GTI gearbox...

how would the compression ratio be?

totally new to the 16v polo world... any advice welcome...

the 1600 gti bottom end uses shorter cylinder head bolts for a start.

the timing belt arrangement is totally different too, the afh block has an extra mounting hole for the belt idler which the gti block doesn't have so my gut feeling says no, you wont be able to swap over the crank into the 1.4 block either because the gti crank has a journal machined on the end for the crank impulse sender. you could however use an aee 1600 8v crank in the 1.4 afh block using the pistions and rods from the gti lump.... to be honest i's not worth the balls ache

so she'll be staying as a 1.4 for now then... may just have to go for carb route but been there done that now!

will have to look at some other options!

several people have used and ran the 1600 16v block with a 1.4 16v head successfully

ooh where?? is there any info on it on here?? i'd like to have a look then, might even do it to mine

mikeymk and jez have done done it on theres,

mikey is running it in a mk2 coupe, jez was running it on a mk4

its beneficial to the old skool generation mk1-3s as with the mk4 head you can use late mk2 coupe s igntion setup, which eliminates the need for ecus and the like and simplfies the wiring no end.

just out of interest, whats the point in mating the 1.4 head to a 1.6 bottom end? why not just drop the complete 1.6 engine in?

The later 16v lupo and polo heads have crapper air flow iirc.
