Right, I'm thinking of getting a car to mess on with over the winter months, I have a garage sorted (my nan's garage) But she lives in not the best of area, so I don't want to buy a car just for some thieving git to nick it when i'm not there...

So does anyone know any insurance companies that will insure a car just to be garaged up and not be driven?

you can always take the battery off disconnect the fuel pump, a few other vital things to make the car start and take them with you so they cant be easily connected!

could you just get it insured for TPF&T on a 'normal' policy?

i don't think you can get specific policies for storage only (but i may be wrong), but when I SORN'd my beetle it still had insurance left over which would have covered me for Fires or Theft/damage in my garage.. you just state it's being stored in a lockable garage or whatever.

or do as Pepe suggested and have some insurance of your own lol..

Problem is with getting normal insurance is I'm only 17 and i was looking at getting a MK2 Golf GTI.. So I doubt they would touch me.

How about insuring it under your gran, as it will be had her garage, and you won't be driving it. I would imagine it would be alot cheaper then

I see where you are coming from, but unfortunately she doesn't have a licence, but then my Mam does and she has 9 years no-claims. And there is no chance it will get crashed so it is not like she will lose her no claims bonus.

give nfu mutual a call they used to insure garaged cars for £15-25 for every £1000 I'd have thought they still would or if not google lay up insurance alot of bikers do it in the winter

no it isn't because it doesn't cover it getting stolen or vandalised. You can get "laid up" insurance policies which cover a car which is off the road and SORN'ed.
