G40 45mm throttle body butterfly

As above, here I have for sale a custom made cnc machined 45mm butterfly for the polo G40.

This butterfly is the result of one of the cuts of material for the 51mm throttle butterfly's being too small for the job.

So what I did this morning was machine this undersized piece of material down to standard size.

This butterfly is the ideal solution to de-wedging, instead of taking the wedges out and filling the holes with screws or metal putty just take out your standard butterfly and fit this one.

This means you will have de wedged your throttle body and haven't had to fill the holes with anything as there are none.

Made from high grade aluminium and cnc machined.

I will also include a pair of stainless bottle top alen bolts machined down to 8.9mm and with the heads taken down 0.1mm in diameter so they fit the recesses in the spindle perfectly.

I advise when fitting this butterfly to use a punch to indent the emerging thread of the bolt so it does not come loose

Condition: brand new

Price: £34 + £1 postage if needed.

No it isn't £40 for a bit of metal, if it was just a bit of metal then it you could get it down at a scrap yard!!!

The value of this piece is in the time and effort it takes to make it into what it is!!!

First there's cutting, cleaning and prepping of the metal piece so it can go on the mill, then setting up on the cnc mill taking readouts of x and y coordinates so that the holes can be drilled in exactly the right place, then the metal has to be set up on the lathe to be machined at exactly the right angle and finally the burs are removed very carefully as not to disturb the sharp edge that is required.

Would they do all of that for you down at the metal scrapyard for a £1 or £2, no I don't think so!!!

Besides people are welcome to make offers if they wish :)

So does the laser cutting put the exact opposing chamfer on as well? and get rid of all of the burrs that laser cutting would produce?

no you couldn't, you can't laser cut an opposing chamfer on the edges of the plate which are needed for it to seal which is where the complications come with making these.

The CNC cutting doesn't do the chamfer as you've said yourself you'd have to transfer it to the lathe. As for burrs there wouldn't be any, one of the advantages of laser cutting. So burn off a bunch on the laser cutter from a single sheet of aluminium, all dimensionally accurate and with precise edges, transfer them to the lathe and cut the angle...clean up. I can't see it taking very long to cut the edge and clean them up. If you have access to the machine and an off cut is available then the only cost is surely your time?

If you approached a machine shop and asked them to make a one off from scratch then £30-40 might be fine but you're paying them for their time at an hourly rate really.

I made one for PeteG40 in his throttle body i did him.

i machined out his throttle body to 50.8mm (2 inch) and made him a new butterfly identical to yours

and i only charged him £15 for the lot.

not being funny with you or anything Jaun but the price is a little high, and i do understand that you can't make these in 2 minutes they do take time, £5 is more realistic

I think it's worth that due to the time an effort that has gone into setting up the jigs and processes along with the fact that when I'm using the machines they can't be earning money, it's not only my time but also the cost of the down time on the cnc machines

The butterfly's are made to the exact original tolerances and are mock fitted a number of times into an empty throttle body to make sure they're perfect.

Taking into account the work that has gone into this along with the downtime on the cnc machines which costs "£x" amount depending what jobs are on them I don't think what I am asking is totally outrageous.
