I've never driven an old Polo, and was wondering if a 1.0L engined breadvan would be seriously underpowered?

they're not a fire breathing beast , but not too bad considering

i love mine its even quicker than my mates mk5 having the 4 gears! but on a bad note mine just poped its head gasket =/
