On the 2nd of September Me and a few mates set off for the trip of a lifetime. A retro car run to the Nurburgring.

I was going in the Mk3, my mate Andy with passenger Nicky in his mini and another mate, Ben in his beetle.

So, from Wolverhampton we got as far as Milton Keynes and this happened;

DSC01320.jpg

A wire going into the distributor was missing a grommet. Over the 2 years he had the leccy ignition fitted that wire had rubbed and rubbed and then it chose the best of times to finally short and blow all the electrics

With me not having a passenger, we rammed all of Ben's stuff into my car and in he jumped. The exhaust now dangerously close to the floor.

Also spotted this at the garage

Several hours later than expected we arrived at Thurrock travel lodge on the M25, Had a cup of tea, watched Tomb raider and fell to sleep.

Then up at silly hour so we could get to brands hatch for 7

There where a LOT of cars there, was too hyped to get photos.

Then at 8 we set off for Dover

Ferry took 2 hours from Dover to Dunkirk, Driving on the opposite side isnt as bad as some people make out. Its actually really easy when there are other cars around.

Got no pics from the drive there, all on my mates camera.

Several long hours later, after enjoying the smells of france, breaking my spine on the cattle grid-roads of Belgium and then the getting brown pants on the roads of Germany We arrived at Camping-am-Nurburgring. an awesome camp site right next to the ring.

Put all of our tents up and enjoyed a few beers.

We then got woken up to the sound of some very fast superbikes going round the GP track, It was superbike week, with the national superbike championships (or something like that)

It was Thursday, Our 1st day to go explore and go shopping. And at 5 we had the ring to ourselves for half n hour :D

Off to lidl we went, bought some sausages and discovered the Germans don't like Bacon, Our plans for fry ups every morning had just gone well and truly tits up.

:D :D

No pics from these laps, But here is one to explain why it was rather hair raising...

Got to about the 3rd corner and the heavens opened up. not the best experience for my 1st lap, but it was interesting. Lots of spins from others (including andy in his mini)

Friday came round and it was raining again, so off to the new ring centre we went. This place is truly awesome! Massive, full of amazing cars and it has a Subway!!!

Saturday quickly came to an end and soon started the best day of the week, Sunday. Clear skys and very warm, even at 8 in the morning.

We arrived at the track early to get a few laps in before it got busy

1 lap in the polo, followed by a lap in this... :D :D :D :D :D

DSC01366.jpg

Going round in that made the holiday for me tbh. Its fun driving the polo round there, but being a passenger in that was absolutely amazing!

the acceleration, speed, brakes, grip. Gob smacking stuff. And the noise.. To die for. I don't know when I stopped smiling after that lmao!

Then another 3 laps in the polo and a lap in Andys mini.

And a LOT of pictures from the carpark.

I Chose not to go in but a few of us had other ideas

Also, a Fellow Club polo'er turned up at the camp site. A guy called Dan (cant remeber his CP name) in a MK2 coupe with a GT conversion.

Three wheels FTMFW!!!

Too soon Tuesday came, the day for the epic journey back

It was too hot, I was too tired and didn't want to leave.

We got into Belgium and my exhaust fell off. Fluke that it happened outside a garage that had one pack of cable ties left! Ben came out looking lke hed won the lottery

I was panicking too much to get photos, but here's one of the bodge, that is still holding the exhaust on today

DSC01433.jpg

We just missed the 02:00 ferry so we had to wai for the 4:00 ferry. In the sweltering heat

DSC01428.jpg

On the ferry we got, found something rather cool when we went outside.

DSC01429.jpg

DSC01430.jpg

DSC01431.jpg

Back in England, we then hit the road for Cornwall. Due to me having so much fun there, I failed to get any photos of this half other than this one

HPIM1728.jpg

Oh and campsite cat!

HPIM1727.jpg

On the Sunday we headed back. Luckily we hit a lot of traffic leaving Van fest (i think) so we saw loads of pimp vans and a madly slammed 6N

Overall, I don't think ill go on a holiday which will better this. It really was a trip of a lifetime.

Germany was fucking awesome, everything about the place i love, especially around the ring. Every other car was either a slammed VW, Porsche, BMW M of some shape, AMG etc.

They LOVE there VW's over there, i was in my element tbh haha.

And OMG at the roads and the stunning scenery, England really doesn't compare to it.

Cornwall was also wicked. Went in the sea every day, spent way too much on clothes from Newquay and didn't drink enough Pear Rattler (due to running out of money)

And a few wikid pictures :D

Sorry for the large amount of pictures too btw. And i have cut down and got rid of some of the crap ones

Clubpolo takeover next year I reckon.

Will Advertise the run on here next year. but with it being a retro run it will be MK3 tops! Getting mine on the run caused some beef because of it being a 93 lol.

The year after next I'll be up for organising a CP run down there. not up for doing it next year though as I've too much to do before BH2N

Sounded like an awesome trip mate, id love to go for a spin round the ring.

Some beautiful pic there too mate.

Awesome :) Did you stop off at amsterdam on the way over?

how much did it all cost in the end if you dont mind me asking? some of the guys from my uni want to go for a bit but they think its going to cost around £250 max and some how i recon it would be a bit more than that lol

Fucking epic mate.. I drove to Holland (unfortunately didn't make Germany) in my 6N last month my first time driving in Europe and I fucking loved it. So much better than the UK, but I can't put my finger on it - just awesome.

Can't wait to get back out there - I'm well up for a Clubpolo convoy!

Cool thread man, awesome pics.. Germany = VAG Porn i see haha

Haha. Well the cost...

Because I went with a proper organised run, ferry, camping, having the ring for half n hour etc it worked out a fair bit cheaper than say one man and his polo would have to pay.

Fuel, me n my mate went halves on (the polo used fuck all btw, could have gotten all the way to the ring, from my house on one tank if I was more careful and had less weight) Which was a good job or id have had hardly any spending money.

I Took £400 and came back with nothing. Next year I'm aiming to have a grand just for petrol and spending.

All together it cost me around £560. And to be honest, its nowhere near enough.

That was for 6 nights. With that money I managed to get a few beers, 5 laps, a hoody (for 50 euros) enough food and junk, half petrol costs, a ride on them boats, stickers, entrance the the ring werk thing and a few other bits n bobs.

You need more than 5 laps, its addictive! And if you can get people to take you round in fast cars, then do it. I just went up to the bloke in the GT3RS on the carpark and offered to pay for the lap if he took me round.

Also, the ring taxi is a must for next year, pref 2 goes as you get to choose, fast lap or fun lap (sideways FTW) I want both so that's 350 euros (which can be split between 3)

Oh, and i think no matter what you have done to your car, you will want to improve it for next year . and you will want to go again next year lmao!

My hole year now is looking forward to this trip again and getting the car ready for it (again)

Brakes fried - Full upgrade needed I think to G40's

Tires shit - May take another 4 wheels with semi's on just for the track or some bloody good all round tires

Complete lack of power - Engine conversion is 100% happening once I'm 21 in March

That looks epic tobes! :D Seriously something i have to do in the near future!

I still cant believe you wangled a ride around in that gt3 ;)

Looks proper!! Although not in my 1 litred beast. Loved your car as well at this years CP show, your paint looks da shizzle.

lol i just been looking on ebay to get my metro underway... I'm gonna go for a metro turbo lump instead of the 1.8 i was originally gonna put in ... mainly coz ill only be 19 by the time i go... and plus i just wna hear the stisfying sound of a dump valve in a car that weighs as much as a pair if pants.

i will only be taking one other person when we go and just load the back of the car with shit (gonna be striped out anyway with lightweight bucket seats in) ... keeping as lite as possible.

looks like I'm gonna have to do my homework abit ... sort out everything making sure i got enough money to cover me for a few more then 5laps ... can imagine that being over in just a few seconds lol ... will be looking at getting my enginge remapped aswell befroe we go ... I'm gonna get my uncle to strip it down and rebuild it with a few performace parts smile.gif so she gonna be quick, well fingers crossed anyways.

so by the time i done the car and paid for this .... gonna be well skint .... but you only live once aye and from what you have said its well worth the money.

keep me posted on when your gonna go out there ... might be the same time as when we plan to go ... might be able to meet up out there and have a few beverages smile.gif
