My new polo

Featured Replies

This is my first ever car after being on bikes for nearly 6 years! Various knee injuries have forced me to get a car, plus I wouldn't mind a warm winter commute for once!

1999 Polo 6n 1.6 8v! I looked around high and low at alot of cars before finding this, I paid a little more than I was willing to spend but I can't find fault with it atall. It had a dent in the rear valance, but my dad repaired it as he owns a bodyshop, but the colour match is slightly wrong as he rushed it. It will be resprayed in the near future. No rust apart from a few fastenings under the bonnet, and the Rocker cover will be getting a coat of paint (probably the same colour as the car, or maybe candy black).

Overall I'm pretty happy with it, put a CD player in, changed the side indicators and I'm fitting some coilovers and wheels tommorrow so I will get more pictures up!

Ah the CRX is my stepdads weekend toy, although it hasn't moved atall this year. 1.6vt, the last they did of that shape, all standard including faded bumpers  Up for sale in the next few weeks as it never gets used and is taking up garage space.

Plans for polo are-

ATS cups (going on tommorrow)

Coilovers (going on tommorrow)

Clear front indicators

6N2 rear lights

Debadged rear

Black VW badges (although not 100% on this at the moment)

New door speakers and tweeters

Perhaps an interior re-trim, or interior from another VW in leather

Not going to do much on the engine front, might get a stainless system but try to keep it as OEM as possible, and remove that pipe that goes from the manifold into the air intake, as all I can see that doing is hindering the car.

I'm not a fan of Induction kits and Loud exhausts on such a small car, if it was an RX7 or Skyline then I can see the benefit. I'm more intrested on keeping good MPG for the moment!

You got anymore pictures of the Honda? :D

All lowered and on the wheels, looks awesome! Have to take the front left shock back off because I realise I put a part in the wrong way, so will do that tommorrow, also the car fell off the jacks as we were taking it off the axel stands, put a little dent in the passenger side sill :(

Debadged one side of the boot, but the paint is a different colour underneath slightly so will have to get that sorted out!

Any tips on removing bump strips?

looking good man, love the ATS Cups!

instead of painting the badge black, why not just get a de-badged grille? they look badass hah.

Using raceland coilovers. Took me and a mate from 12.30-7pm to do, with an hour for dinner. There was some confusion about taking the rear shocks apart though! We took both of them right apart which took over an hour to do because of the piss poor design of them, then found out the part we needed just pulls off with no dissasembly required!

Then we had the problem that we fitted one shock on the rear and left a standard shock on, we then couldnt get the standard shock off because the torsion bar had been raised so much and was under so much compression, so had to take it all apart again!

I was thinking of a De-badged grille, but everyone seems to have them, and I think the VW badge breaks the front up abit...We will see, Ill give it a photoshop.

love the colour of this car, i'm not usually keen on debadged grills but i think that it would suit this perfectly

6N2 rears on! need lining up abit, right one sits flush with boot, left needs some adjustment on the enlarged hole! Piece of piss to do and looks so much more modern than the standard lights!

New front indicators and de-badged grille tomorrow, followed by more slammage!

Nice work so far :-)

Remove the side strips will look muchos better.

Grim job of hot water, sticky stuff remover and old credit cards but does look better. Especially on modified cars and no yours is low and on wheels you fall into that bracket :-)

Keep up the good work.

Ah yes, I'm abit skeptical weather to take them off or not. I took the 1.6CL badge off the back, and the paint has faded somewhat, not much, but noticeable in the right light.

I don't want to remove the bumpstrips to be greeted with 2 different coloured stripes on the side!

Looks cool.

I'm a fan of CRX's too 8-)

My rocker cover was in need of a revamp, so I decided to go about painting it...then I thaught, why not add the DK logo to the theme?

Spent ages making a stencil, then realised afterwards that I had failed...

Before...

Afterwards...

Then I put the engine cover on, and the massive fail was apparent lol...

I have a selection of new bolts on the way to spruce it up abit more, and new bolts for the rocker cover.

looks nice mate, id say get some spacers on your back wheels!!

I can only wish! I can only see myself keeping the polo for a year or 2 before moving onto something Jap, then again I might still love it in 2 years time! It's staying as it is for now, some new component speakers and tweeters and it shall be finished...for now.

You don't mess around, looking nice already man :)

Alex

best colour for 6n, if i ever owned a 6n again this is the exact colour/model i would want :)
