Hi, i need to fix a set of steel wheels there are buckled and need lip repair, I don't suppose anyone knows a place in the midlands that will repair them? I've been searching the web and all I can find is aloy wheel repair. Please help.

Not being funny but your being a bit dumb if you think that just because the company is listed as an alloy repair company that they won't consider your steels!

Your not going to get a company that advertises itself as steel wheel repairers!

Just give the alloy places a ring, but probably cheaper to buy new steels tbh, unless they're some banded ones or something.

but considering there made out of different materials and are manufacured completely different, I. Would of thought it might be a different way of repairing them?

There are rare aircooled wheels that I plan on putting on my polo for something different. Can't really buy anymore as they only sell remanufactured alloy ones for 120quid each.

I'll give some alloy repair centres a ring and see what they say.

How badly damaged are the wheels? Having repaired alloys and steels your right in that its much easier to reshape a set of alloys than it is a set of steels because of the difference in material.

If its not massively damaged its quite easy to straighten out a steel wheel DIY style.

I haven't actually brought them yet but there going cheap so I thought they might be cheaper to repair than getting a set that are perfect. Just wondering if it will be a cheap fix or not?

Well it depends on how bad it is really. If its a kink it can be straightened out pretty cheaply. If its badly dented or cracked then it'll be a lot more!

Post pics, easiest way to see how much effort it will be.

If it's just the lip that's a bit buckled, you can normally knock them out.

lip on my mattigs was bent, block of wood, lump hammer and a critical eye/bit of patience - good as new

i've done it! bought them, picking them up after the 2nd of october! (when i get back from my holiday) i'll post pics up then. just need to assess the damage and prob take them somewhere to get a quote. I talked to my dad and he recons steel wheels can be fixed no matter whats happened to them. and if they are extremely screwed then u can just rerim them. (weld the centre plate inside a new rim) so should be all good.

there website is www.wheelclinic.co.uk but i think its a bit out of date tho, as they do all four wheels at £200 for any size and colour even there black chrome finish thats wicked, i got it one mine, and they done mine with in 2days!!

i think you can even post your rims to them and they will ship them back once done, i think you would have to pay for the shippin cost tho,

and ofcorse they can straiten buckled wheels and they can get cracked wheels welded and strated 2 :biggrin:

I've got them! there not as in a bad of condition as i thought, but still bad.

the guy (who was a mad aircooled fanatic) thought it was weird that I'm putting it onto my polo. he said never seen that b4, and i said yeh i know, thats y I'm gonna do it! we both laughed. lol. But he did mention something to me, he said you can buy just the steel rims from somewhere and have the centres moved over? this sounds like a really good idea as i might be able to get a wider rim and place the centres in them. but does anyone know where i could buy these? or are all 15inch steel wheels the same rim inner bore and i could just pick up a set from the scrap yard?

Any help would be deeply appriciated.

serves me right for trying to do something completely different on a budget. well budget wheels anyways as the adaptors are gonna cost me around 70quid a corner.
