My New Mk2 Breadvan

Featured Replies

griffo: the plug next to the fuse box is probably the connector for fitting front fogs. I'm almost certain, but it would probably be worth checking a wiring diag, or sticking a multi-meter across it first just to check.

the front wing btw would come up pretty shiney if you polish it with some cutting compound!

Yer the front wing I think i'm going to flat it back a little and give it a coat of lacquer and a polish and see how it turns out :) need to get myself a retro telescopic aerial to get back in there hehe :D

Should hopefully be picking up my wheels tomorrow :D

Euro car parts do the Genuine Hella ones for under a tenner. Got one in the MK3 atm

Had a halfords one before it, it cost more and went all rusty within 2 months!

Not a massive update but meh! Payday was yesterday so have a couple of bits n bobs in the post lol! Recieved my first bit of scene tat in the post today lol :D

8 Ball gearknob :D So much better than the old knob which was this..

24102009822.jpg

Haven't got a clue what it is but it felt absolutely horrible! Looks pap too lol! Oh well, thats gone, yay :D

Also purchased a few little things from ECP yesterday, nothing fun, just routine bits.

New Rocker cover gasket, Fuel pump Sealing ring (Current ones weeping oil), New Thermostat and Rad cap, will be swapping all these over tomorrow providing it stays reasonably dry!

Also bought an ISO Audio plug harness as there are just wires in the car atm so at least then I can get myself some choons on the go with a headunit! Was hoping to have picked up a rear bumper yesterday and make a start on swapping that over but Volksmagic were closed until Monday :( hmph!

Hopefully can have a more eventful update later in the week with something a little more interesting hehe!

Yay I finally have a quiet Polo and not something that sounds like it's farting through a beancan with a megaphone strapped to the end of it!

Got up earlyish and though i'd take a trip around a couple scrapyards on the lookout for a MK2 Polo.

Went to a couple with no luck, got home and gave one of the ones I use quite alot a ring. Turned out they had a MK2 of some sort up there :D Told em i'd be right up and went on my way!

Landed on a gooden!! I had finally found me a MK2 Bready in a scrappy lol, straight away said i'll take the bumper, while the chap was removing the bumper for me I got under the bonnet and got the fan blower resistor off and pocketed that (well they can't put a price on untested goods ) Luckily it works a treat and I have fully functional blowers now! Also had a couple fuses too lol.

Paid £25 for the bumper in the end which I was happy with, still £10 cheaper than Volksmagic and meant I didnt need to wait until today to get it. Also picked up a spare wheelbolt out of it too as my one wheel had a random wheel bolt which I wanted to replace!

So anyhow, got home and took the bumper into the garage to give a dose of the ol' satin matt!

25102009831.jpg

Whipped the old bumper off the back, lol, you could see screws on the outside of the bumper, this would be why....

25102009828.jpg

25102009829.jpg

Lol! So it left the back of the car looking like so...

25102009830.jpg

Right then, time to rag that nasty exhaust off! Got it all off and started fitting the original one i had, got it all in place and couldnt fit it :( the one hanger on the body had snapped away meaning it was going to need the power of a welder to sort out! So I chucked the original in the boot and took it to work with me today. From there went down to the local exhaust place and got them to fit it. Sounded f*cking horrible with no rear silencer on lmfao!

So I left it at that and fitted my new rear bumper on, rear valance is a little tatty I know, I haven't cleaned it yet though so hopefully a good wash n polish will tidy it up a bit more! Also bent it back out a bit where they've pushed it up for that exhaust!

While I had the back jacked up I tried on one of the teardrops, can't really get the proper idea but you get the jist, think they'll look alright!

25102009832.jpg

Still haven't fitted my new gaskets n stuff yet lol, doh! I'm f*cking nackered lol! Roof bars also turned up today yay :D Hopefully my other part will turn up in the next day or so ready for next weekend to tat some more lol! :p

mint, loving the progress, i picked myself up a bready at the weekend, love it

Thought it'd be nice to get a couple pics of it off the drive too lol. Pics arn't fantastic 1.) I'm a crap 'togger anyway lol 2.) Playing around with different settings on the camera

So yer anyway, a couple pics I grabbed :)

Fitted a new rocker cover gasket and rad cap today which is about the most I've done on it since doing the bumper and exhaust. Next pay I shall be getting tyres for the alloys so I can get those on and new front lower arms. I have a MK1 Golf CL splitter sitting in the garage for it too awaiting to be fitted :) Think some basic metal plates are on the cards too.

Looking good dude!!

Those units, where is that mate? i spy 'to let' signs on them :ninja:

its next to Bass Junkies just over the bk of Bentley Bridge bud, take it your after a unit?

loving the car, loving the attitude. Keep it up.

Ahh awesome!

I'd love a unit yeah but they all proper expensive. Still after one though.

I know yer, a few of my mates and myself were looking at getting a unit and all chipping in together, unfortunately it never materialised :( Got a council garage over the road like, but it's more ideal for storage rather than doing stuff in. Would still love a unit too

Hey dudes, well I took my camera out with me tonight and even though I was tripodless, thought i'd have a go at taking a couple piccies. Haven't turned out tooooo bad I don't think :)

Not really much new on the car tbh since last update, other than metal no.plates have now been added, along with an aerial lol! Oh yer, i've also removed my front light brow, I think I prefer it off but what do you guys reckon?

Roll on when I get tyres for my alloys! MAY have some stiffened shocks lined up also meaning it'll then be time to go lower! 8-)

Hey man,

Nice to meet you the other week. Should have come along this week though, there was another mk2 over!

I think i prefer it with the headlamp eyebrow on tbf, dont seem them so often these days. But then i am a bit biased having one on mine too :p

Lookin good though man.

Just a boring quick one! Had a bit of a tat around the car as I do sometimes when I come home from work. Took a bit more of the old trim plastics out the back that were pointless being there. I did take another look at my headunit wires to maybe look at wiring my ISO plug in but failed pretty much straight away lol! So started having a tat under the bonnet.

Since i've owned the car and got it running etc. it's still ALWAYS had random bits of misfiring and hesitation although i've just slowly learnt how to drive the car around these problems rather than properly look at them, thinking it was initially the carb mixture and not having the money to get it tuned properly. Anyway while under the bonnet, first thing I noticed was that my dissy cap wasn't quite sitting rightly! So stuck that back on and turned the car on to see if it made any difference.

It didn't make any difference but I reved it a little and on overrun heard a "Tick" sound, straight away I knew what it was! Something was arcing! Revved the car a few more times and found the pattern to which then I saw the problem! A big blue/yellow bolt of electric shooting from the top of no.4 HT lead to....The fuel pump! Lmfao!

The offending item

20112009076.jpg

You can just see the little split on top in the rubber! Zipped down to GSF anyway and bought a new set of leads and plonked em on! took it round the block and it's running a million times better! No missing or hesitating so i'm really happy! It's still missing a tiny bit on idle but my exhausts blowing so i'm thinking it's that which I'll be sorting monday/tuesday anyway as i'm off work :D

P.S With anybody else who has purchased new HT leads recently. I bought a set from GSF and were manufactured by Beru. One thing I noticed as opposed to the original leads is that they're all the same length bar no.1 Lead, whereas the originals are individually lengthed? Anybody else had this? Not really a problem mind, just cable tied em together so they stayed relatively tidy :)

Nice looking car

Can you please tell what size are those wheels and what size are the tyers....Can you drive normaly with those tyers on.

Thanks

Hey mate Wheels are from a Golf/Vento, 14x6 ET43 with 185/60/14 tyres on. If the suspension was stiffer it'd probably have been ok at that ride height but with standard shocks (probably f*cked aswell lol) It caught quite a bit!

Bit of an update though! Those wheels are now gone lol! Tuesday I had a set of tyres fitted to my Teardrop alloys, Managed to pick up a fully matching set of Michelins 165/65/14 all with 7mm of tread on (and these were part worns!!!!!!!!!) For £72 fitted balanced, new valves blah blah blah! I was very happy personally :D So on arrival home from work yesterday, armed with jack/hammer (To "Roll" my arch lips slightly lol)/wheel brace etc. I fitted my new alloys :D

Although they're a lower offset and a slightly larger tyre profile to the steels the reduced tyre width and slightly pushed in arch lips has cured my scrubbing issues! Meaning I now have clearence to comfortably take Otto lower now at some point! 8-) Also noticed steering has lightened up a little nicely (not that it bothered me before mind) seems a smidge nippier and a smidge better on fuel too! Everyones a winner :D Drove it down to the Coventry meet last night where Mike (Uncle Terry) grabbed it's debut shot on the new shoes :)

Polocov.jpg (Thanks mate! :) )

Tonight I stuck a couple more stickers on which i'd received and took my camera out with me to try get a couple shots on the new shoes. Will probably get a couple better daylight piccies the weekend!

I'm happy with how it's going atm :) So next stages now are Scirocco seats, going lower and possibly spacing out the rear wheels a little. I'm not too fussed about taking the rear down much more probably 10mm more will keep me sweet, but then maybe 20mm up front and get a bit of rake on the go! Watch this space!

If this is the car I think it is, it's been knocking around for years! I've got pics of it at a rolling road day about ten years ago!

Someone else has mentioned about this car possibly having a known past? Check out your pics dude and see if it's the same reg plate lol, i'm intrigued now!

I'll fire up my PC and have a look in a bit. Everything old is on there somewhere. Sure it used to belong to someone called Neville Gunn back in the day, iirc his missus had a yellow Mk2 saloon. I'll check in a bit.

nice one dude, looking sweet now, when I'm back at xmas will have to meet up and get some snaps :)

I thought I had a better scan than this - it's at a different rr day in an old issue of PVW which I had a scan of, but I can't find it. I have the hard copy at home somewhere, I'm going back to Cardiff tomorrow so I'll have a look in my room while I'm there.

However, I'd say I'm almost positive this is your car:

This is from an old issue of Golf Xtreme, around 1998-1999!

Looks kinda close although mines a 1liter so unless it's had an engine downgrade isn't mind. That front bumper looks like it'd been done properly aswell, believe me, this one hadn't lmfao!

Should be able to say for sure tomorrow :)
