Mk3 Golf 1.6

Featured Replies

Am toying with the idea of selling my Mk 3 Golf sometime soon as I'll need to get a bigger car. Here's a summary: (pics later)

1.6 AEE engine 75 BHP

1997 (P Reg)

62,000 miles (very low for a car of that age)

4 door

Electric windows

Totally standard in every way.

I do 22 miles to work on mixed motorway/city driving and it averages 37mpg.

MOT & Tax until Dec 2009

Good points:

Low mileage

New head gasket, cambelt and waterpump 4000 miles ago

New exhaust 8000 miles ago, still with one year left on warranty

Been fully serviced and x2 oil changes in last 12 months.

New plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm

New CV joints

New power steering pump

Insurance group 7

Bad points:

Brakes need bleeding but haven't had time

About 3 small rust spots appeared around wheel arches

Boot lock won't open (you have to open front door first so boot will open with central locking)

It's white!

Had a 1.6 6n Polo with same engine as this Golf before but Golf is much better performance wise. Handles well in corners, much more torquey and will cruise at 90 on the motorway without feeling like it's going to fall apart.

Would be looking for offers in the region of £450-600.

i just sold a 1993 1.8 golf with 157,000 miles for £500 so i'd ask for £695 and see what happens!

i sold one recently with a little more miles for 895 , so i would put it up for 950 and see where you go , but i am in the south where car prices are quite strong tbh

hello mate, fany a swap with another 1.6 polo? have you got any pictures? cheers
