Modifed car insurance.

Featured Replies

Right so I'm 19 now, thinking insurance should be getting a bit cheaper for a modified vehicle as Adrian Flux et cetera claim to be able to do you a good deal for young drivers with modified cars.

So I ring them up, on the phone for 11 minutes all for them to give me quote of £4800.

I have no NCB as I have been on my Dad's policy previously and wasn't able to earn NCB as I was only a named driver. Yet I need my own policy to earn NCB.

What am I supposed to do?

dont drive a modded car for a few years, its the cheapest way. you want modded, you have to pay the premium for it.

Yeah I understand that, this year's insurance was £1500 though with my Dad as the policy holder. I understand why it's like that but you should see the claims to how cheap Adrian Flux can do modified cars.

That's a sample quote:

Vauxhall Corsa Sport 1.6

£965 TPFT

Alloys, Exhaust, Lowered, Male, 19, DN17, 1 Year NCB, 1 fault accident.

Edit: my car was insured this year with the lowerage and wheels declared.

try brentacre or HIC they are good with modified cars

Yeah cheers mate I will do.

Just started trying to get quotes and I'm sick of it already.

Tbh in a car tht new, I'd be surprised if you did get cheap insurance, especially with modding!

i got quoted £250 TPFT with adrian flux, coilovers, dash conversion, interior change, brake upgrades, smoothed bumpers etc all declared, but I'm 21, i couldnt get insured with any mods until now, direct line still wont touch me till I'm 25!

Quinn...

Insured me on a group 6 1.4 Polo, all mods declared, 1 years driving, no NCB at 18 for 1600 by myself..

Alot of money but considering the circumstances..

I've heard they've gone shit now though.

Just try the comparison sites, and Elephant, they've always been good..

Don't see why the car's age should come into play?

It's group 3, maybe it's more desirable than say a 6N, but it's newer and therefore probably safer with modifications as parts are less worn?

I'm with Quinn now.

How much did it end up costing you?

my mate is 19 has about 1 or 2 years no claims.

He has a golf mk3 vr6 (as in my profile pic) with these mods:

Porsche split rims

Coilovers

front and rear bumpers and side skirts

Induction kit

full respray

arches rolled

different front and rear lights

stripped out

roll cage

racing seats

and loads more.

With all this declaire he pays £900 a year. When he told them he bought FIA approved racing seats his insurance went DOWN £100 lol.

I will ask him who he is through and get back to you. :)

Kuszpit :)

Also forgot to say i have a vw polo 1.4 16v, I am insured through my dad and i am 17 and only have a provisional license.

I am through Quinn direct and i pay £700 a year. I contacted them today to see how much it would be extra if i added coilovers and also told them about my interior change and other mods and i got quoted £3.47 extra a month with these mods. :D

Getting my coilovers asap now that i know its so cheap.

So i recommend Quinn direct or the company may mates through when i find out who it is. :)

cos u live in aberdeenshire lol... come to luton where a 1.0 litre will cost you twice that

would be interestin to know who youre both with tho

Insuring as a named driver on your parents policy or on a provisional license will not gain you Win.

It'll cost alot more in the long run.

PSW, your right really, the car's age shouldnt make much, if any difference as my 1993 1.3 Mk3 Polo was classed as group 6..

You just need to keep shopping around, NCB makes such a difference though so you really need to get your own policy.

If you look at the price I'm paying with Quinn, you should be able to get it near that. I insured mine with 1 years experience but no NCB, so you'll be the same but a year older..

Are you getting quotes for fully comp? being a newer car, i'd think that would increase the price a fair bit....

Oh and add your dad as a named driver..

ofcourse the cars age and value will affect the premium... if the car is 10 years old and worth a grand if you do £500 worth of damage they'll write it off.

If your car is 3 years old and worth £5000 then £1000 worth of damage they'll have to pay out for and if it's written off it's gonna cost em £5000 to pay you out.

So age/value is a major factor in a policy premium!

I found when getting my insurance it was often cheaper for me to get my insurance fully comp than 3rd part fire and theft.

Quinn's renewal price with me as named driver again and my Dad as policy holder will be £1234.

Looks like I'll be sticking with that.

Yeah Kuszpit, I don't know if it's because you're in Aberdeenshire but that is ludicrously cheap.

TPFT doesn't seem to make any difference anymore, it's about who you're going to hit, they don't care about you.

Yeah fully comprehensive, smithy. Cheers for your help.

I hate to burst your bubble mate but wait till you pass, price will at least double, and then if you do it in your own name, even more!

found out who my mate is threw and its "Adrian Flux" the guy with the twin VR6t mk3 golf. He is advertised in nearly all PerformanceVW Magz.

Kuszpit :)
