  • I’ve just received an email notification about my old polo!! I thought it was dead!!   I’d love to see up to date pics of it!   I’ve gone all sensible now!

Oh don't get me wrong... straight line performance is nothing compared to my Polo... But unless you're on a dual carriage way / motorway the power was useless.

Where I live (in the middle of no where) all the roads are whinding little country lanes... In this I could leave my polo standing... cos all the polo wanted to do was spin up.

I loved the Polo but it wasn't great for what I was using it for.

I'm happy anyway! And that's all that matters!

i no what u mean mate.. when I'm driving mine down the twists u just cant put you are foot down and it handles awfull compared to some other hatches..

I'm never comftable in the polo.. its harsh it rattles but god dam fast lol

 I'll be honest and say this... If you want a 20VT hot hatch buy an Ibiza Cupra. It handles the power a lot better.

I loved the Polo but you have to sacrifice a lot in order to shoe horn a 20VT into one.

Hopefully the new owner will be on here soon!

yeah i agree lol but its the suprise factor that still keeps me laughing and the look on the boxter drivers faces :D

I've been racing a fair lot of things recently and it keeps me happy

The chassis still can't handle 280+ Bhp mate. No matter what you do.

I think with a good LSD, some dacent sticky tyres, the right suspension setup and a good driver the polo would eat the clio regardless!

i repeatedly dick on my mate's 182, lol.

my chassis and subframe have been strengthened though and i'm running KW coilovers, H&R ARB, uprated engine mounts, fully polybushed etc. etc.

Fair play... I didn't want this to turn into a Clio vs the world thread!

I like it, it's a nice car, feels good, is bloody fun to drive and is easy to drive quick.

my mates is nice, i'd own one... they can get driven hard every day and love it.

Well I didn't realise the 172 Cup is quicker than the others. (I didn't know anything about them!) All I knew was that I wanted a 172 Cup as I prefer the hidden exhaust / Speedline Turini's.

It sounds beautiful with the decat and K Tec SS exhaust.

idiot :x:lol:

my chassis had to be re-worked to fit the 6 speed remember... as it's quite a bit bigger than the 5 coggers!

so that was the main reason behind it all being boxed etc. I still have to run 16" rims to keep stuff away from other stuff when driving it as it's meant to be driven :)

good point! it was tight enough getting my 5 speed in. i really wanted the 6 speed box that came with the engine but couldnt aford for it to be fited as well..

i get a little bit of vibration through the steering on mine when i corner left hard something must be still rubbing. it did it really bad before but only a little bit now!

fancy taking me for a spin in yours at rr day?

i think i need uprated anti roll bars and and stiffer/better coilovers

Edited by Djsimmy

not going to the rr day as i'm in London on business :(

so I'm gonna be the only 20vt polo there SHOCKING!!

steve has sold his

Panda - Just out of interest is your mates 182 on std suspension and 17's?

DJSimmy - Good luck for that day... I'm hoping you'll get some decent figures. I am a bit gutted to be missing that actually. I'm never going to turn up in my Clio cos you'll probably stone it!

dude u might as well of come in clio lol and put that on!

he has the cup pack on his, so it's got the sports suspension, front lip etc etc. and the standard 16" wheels. Also has a BMC and a full Milltek system....... and i still beat it!

Steve, sorry to hear the Polo has moved on, I was hoping to see it at the RR day if you were attending!

My ex had a Clio 172 Cup and the first impression when I drove it was simply the huge amount more information and feel that was being fed back to me by the steering, pedals etc. I loved every minute of driving it and wish the Polo had even 50% of the amount of feedback!

Downsides of course are the lightweight build (can make it a bit rattly after a couple of years) and offset pedals but the driving experience makes up for these shortcomings and then some!

Thanks Si! I'll be honest, I'd of loved to of kept it until after the RR day as it was such an awesome car to show off but the guy needed it last weekend as his insurance on his Glanza was running out on the Sunday and he could get insured on the Polo with his present company.

I'm in love with the Clio... My momo 300mm team steering wheel arrived at work this morning, so i'm sitting in the office pretending to drive with a loose steering wheel  Once I have that fitted I think the feedback will be immense as all I can say about the HUGE steering wheel on there is thatr it's very cumbersome and feels very light.

I put the standard HU in last night, as to be honest, even with std speakers etc the extreme bass  makes the doors rattle!!!!! But then that's what I love about it! It would go as well nor handle as well if it had all that sound deadening in it!

  • 7 years later...

Hey guys, new to the forum and new to Polo ownership...have always owned and still own Golfs...currently have a MK2, Mk3 and a Mk4 Golf.

The reason for dredging up such an old post....? I'm picking up SteveS TT's ex Polo 20Vt tomorrow morning...just dropped a deposit on it.

I'll be sure to post some pics once I get it cleaned up tomorrow. For the meantime, 1 word comes to mind...WOW!
