Black bonnet

Featured Replies

I'm thinking about painting my bonnet black as I'm bored of all 1 colour.

Can anyone tell me how much paint I need, where I can buy it from and how long it will take please??

Thanks

Ben

No-one can tell me?

cover the bonnet with vinyl, u can hav any colour u want and u can take it of if u dnt like it

u can probably gt it from any sigh shops like signarama

probably cheaper to buy a black bonnet from scrappers than either vinyl or paint... then you get the option to take it off without the price of vinyl or paint

My mate is willing to do it as his dad has a spray gun and a place to do it so all i will need is the equipment. The other thing with my mate doing it, he can get rid of all the dents/chips/etc

AGREED. But imo, it dont suit.

Mine is the same colour as McTangus before he resprayed and sold it :( Black bonnet looked sweet on his. At the end of the day, I've been wanting to do this for a while.

Where could I get the paint from?

Don't spray your own bonnet. Buy a spare and spray it up. Spraying your own will only mean you can't put the car back to standard and no one will ever want a second hand polo with a black bonnet when or if you come to sell it. People prefer standard. Get to the scrapyard. Get a bonnet. Cost you bugger all. Key the paint up and rattle can it unless you have a compressor. Use satin black easier to lay down than gloss and won't look as tacky. Halfords stuff is not cheap but the stain black paint isn't that bad. Alternatively ebay. Used to be some huge tins of U-pol satin black for cheap on there. Do a few coats and leave a day between them.

Don't paint your bonnet (you will be looking for another in that colour when you come to sell it and won't find one), buy a spare.

Don't rush it. Will look balls.

Get on with it!!

Right on, i'm trying to sell my car on now and trying to find a bonnet the same colour as my car is an absolute B£^&H! Especially if the car is an 'abstract' colour, and then you have to fork out for another better quality repsray to go back to standard.

and even if you find one with the same 'code' it will never look exactly the same.

My mates spraying as I know fuck all about spraying haha

Is there a difference between Satin and Gloss?

Cheers

Satin is matted down

Gloss is shiny

You made the right choice. Don't go gloss black. Looks babba!!

I'm planing on getting a spare bonnet and spraying it satin black will be doing it all with rattle cans.

I've got a spare bonnet in my garage if anyone is interested ?

Hey yeah, I have a mk3 with a rusty bonnet but it's attracting too much attention! I'm not sure whether to sand it back to metal then laquer it or just get a bonnet from the scrapyard that's the same colour. Anyone know anything about having a bare metal look?
