Hi guys , I've justed put some Porsche teledials 175/50/15s on my polo Cl 1990. I want to go lower but not stupidly low ! What do u think is a good height 40/40 or is that to low on those tyres ? Any help would be appreciated ! Thanks guys Adam

40/40 will look like its not even lowered been there done that mate on my old cl!

what's your budget to spend on suspension?? only reason i ask this is you can buy coilovers for 200 notes and you can set the height to how you see fit.

if you want to spend less i would opt for a 60/60 shock and spring kit. the dampers are suited to the shortened springs as using the original damper you will notice it will wear out quicker and the ride will likely be a bit crashy as the dampers aren't uprated.

philj coilovers off of here (jackson tuning)

good base set of coilovers and really on 15x7 teledials with 175/50 your going to be looking at at least 70mm to eliminate the arch gap, if not lower.

i was down 60ish on cups with 195/45s and could fit my hand in between

dont forget setting the tracking and camber up etc will prob cost between 30-50quid

you fitting them yourself or having them fitted?

I'm running 15x7 ATS cups and the front is down around 80-85mm, rear is about 70-75. Don't really know the best way to measure it lol!

(it's abit lower than it is in that picture now, I cant get a finger between the front arches and the tyres!)

Thats sweet ! i was looking to get them fitted i have a vw man who does my dads camper and runs an only vw garage who said he would do them for me . i mean my teledails cost me 240 so i have like 300 left to get i lowered but i want her with a finger width distance so i think coilovers are the right way forward just need the right ones at the right price ! I got my coilovers from ebay, they were only cheapo ones, but do the job fine. Sure it may be bumpy, but lower any car that low on coilovers and it's going to be a mile from stock plushness! Allow the car to go from -20 to -120mm with the helper springs, take them out and it will go even lower!

Some people talk poo on this forum!, Coilovers for a polo mark2/3 1990 costs £££'s, you need to get a phillj 60/40 suspension kitt, I think it may rub slightly on 15"s tho, but the 60/40 kit allows you to change the back to 40/60/80 loweridge.

as has been said your gonna struggle with coilovers cheap for a mk3!

hmm offsets are gonna come into play with this, on those bready arches! what mm are the adaptors?

20 mm adapters i believe . I'm looking at investing in a set of bbs rims for shows but if it comes to it a may sell the teledials and get another set for shows and use the bbs set for normal use . What u think ?

15s handle just fine on mk2s and 3s. I personally prefer 15s and I've run 13s and 14s, in fact thats what I'm currently running on my polos at the moment. 13s on my g40 and 14s on my breadie gt.

porsche wheels have a high offset, so running 20mm spacers will bring that back down to close to std polo offset. you will probably need to roll your arches on a breadie due to the width of the rims, 7j in memory serves correctly.

6j wide 15s will go under without archwork:

my old polo on an unknown drop, but i'd guess at 40mm

15" x 6j et38 vw estoril alloys on federal 165/50s

15" x 6.5j et20 rear and et30 front ssr watanabe rs8s on federal 165/50s

as for how low you can go on 15s, well 80 is pretty easy to do

anything you like so long as you stay close to et38 offset and dont go too much wider than 6j. (same rule applies for 13s and 14s on a breadie)

tyre size is important to. I've always use 175/50 or 165/55s for 13s, 165/55 or 60s for 14s and 165/50s for 15s.

follow those rules and you wont go far wrong.

a mk2 on teledials would look very good imo, but you would almosat certainly need to roll the rear arches a bit. you could always fit arch trims if you cracked the paint (that way you would need to be an ace painter to make the arch rust proof, i.e you could paint it with a brush to stop it rusting and fit a trim to make it look tidy)

Can I just add that when lowering my breadie with philj 60/40 kit I put the rear at 40 otherwise it just looked like it had reverse rake. I would still like to get the nose down further with those caps. The breadie has a bit of reverse slant on it's roof which even when level gives the appearance that it has reverse rake.

I'm always wary of messing with bready rear arches because they can (in my opinion) end up looking a mess. With skills they can look good with wider wheels. I don't know how you (g40jon) get 15's looking good . I've always thought 14's were the limit on a mk2.

Yup, £630 onwards, depending on which company make them. If you're mechanically minded, you can buy the bits to make your own. Just need to be able to weld well.

Have you read any of this thread? They are going on a mk3 breadvan, the arches are nothing like the arches on your mk4 - and i seriously doubt you are down 120mm....

At the original poster - teledials would look the tits on a mk3 bready, if you could get them on Take jons advice and look at offsets etc, maybe trial fit them to work out how low you could go although realistically the only scrubbing issues you'll get will be with the rear, which on Philj shocks and springs kits are adjustable :)
