The Lancia and Toyota are cool, imagine the amount of things you could do to them. Not sure what I would fancy, whether it be a saloon or hatchback...I'm sure I'll find something that makes my mind up with the amount of replies here.

Mark, go on MSA website and searcg for the nearest rally club to you, pop along to one of their Natter N Noggins, speak to a few members and see what they say.

I used to do a bit of Navigational 12 Car excercises where you get a standard car, work out navigation on where to go and fly off down country lanes. It's not expensive as the only thing we had to pay was £30 per event which included the entry fee and rally insurance, look into it if I was you.

If you need any help, I'm sure I can point you in the right direction

Wow, cool...I'll have a look later...thank you. That's pretty good for the £30 to include the insurance too, I'll definately look into that. Is it a proper event where a load of roads are marked off? It must be...would be pretty dangerous otherwise I can imagine.

Have a look at the 750 motor club, they are an organisation set up to create a wide range of budget racing events, and this would be racing rather than rallies, although rallies seem a lot more your cup of tea!

Ok, that's cool. To be honest, in terms of getting into racing myself...I do like circuit racing and the idea of learning racing lines and battling against other drivers. It's just trying to find something cheap, I haven't come across any cheap circuit racing yet. Ideally, Rallycross combines my two main driving interests...I have just never heard of a cheap version of rallycross because of all the parts and running costs.

Are there any rallycross type clubs that focus more on road cars? Well, even fast road cars that dont have to be super specially built...if I wanted to get into it later on when I have a bit more money...

EDIT: Then again, I guess if you wanted to do a form of rallycross, you would need to have a specially built car to cope with the track conditions and performance needed...you couldn't use an everyday car. If only club polo had a racing club...we can have classes for each model.

That lancia delta looks wicked...new cars don't seem to have the character like old cars do. Although I bet in a few years time we'll look back and think mid-range evos look older and classic.

Don't close no roads off as it all co-insides with the Police, the MSA (Motorsport Association) and the Road Traffic Laws. As long as you follows the rules and also find out what other say/do, then you can build up a knowledge on what to do.

Also, if you wanted to go bigger, you could apply for a Rally licence through the MSA which means you could be rallying in Scotland or my favourite place, Isle Of Man

Look at a Lotus Elise or an Exige... that's the perfect car to drive around in everyday and take to the track and embarrass much more expensive cars!

Yea, I'm starting to realise that a lot more now. Not sure if I'm too tall and big for an elise or exige to drive comfortably.

Are trackdays say every couple of months going to be so much cheaper compared to getting into an entry level form of motorsport? Are there many clubs that meet together and go for trackdays?

Track days are expensive in my opinion plus you have to save up for ages between them. 12 Car rallies are the best in my opinion as they are usually done over winter months and are a cheap thrill, kinda like a prostitute.

During summer, theres normally auotests or other Club events.

Haha...nice.

Started to look at auto tests after seeing it on Fifth Gear the other day...looks quite good, but challenging on the amount of different courses and tests you have to learn for a days event...as well as the driving skill involved.

I live in Orpington, South East London...tried searching and looking at a couple of clubs...but haven't found anything right just yet.

Lol, that sounds like fun...alright, I'll have a look. Did you find an auto testing club near me? Haven't practiced handbrake turns or anything properly, only lifting the handbrake a couple of times round a quiet corner...I want to look up or find out how to do it properly so I don't ruin the car.

Do handbrake turns damage the car, or have you just got to be careful you dont do it too much because of your tyres?

Its got to be the escort cosworth or the sierra cosworth you go for.. cosworths wont be extinct in 5 years time.. yep i understand they've been around for 20 odd years but there a classic car. the smile the cosworth puts on your face when that turbo kicks in is just undescribable seriously if your after a seriously fast car then the cosworth's got to be the one thats my opinion but in 5 years time who knows we might be treated to another cosworth in the blue oval range !!!!

Try a bit of marshalling at an event to give you ideas for what you could use and do :)

You wont ruin the car, just tyres and the hand brake cable if you pull it too hard

To be fair cossies and the like arent really rally cars as such, no major manufacturer retails their rally cars to the public, but I know where you are coming from.

The only thing that springs to mind that might be your sort of thing is the old impreza RA (rally altered), its got ally panels etc to cut weight down, short ratio gearbox etc etc. Thats probably as close to a rally car as you can get with a standard car.

Anything much newer than 2000 and they are just a bit too fat for motorsport without really gutting them.

P1's aren't 'that' rare in comparison to the other suggestions! I only said P1 as they are perfect in std form... no need to spend another penny on it... acceleration / handling / braking is all shit hot!

But you're right... in 5 years they will be rare... not as rare as a 22b or escos but an Evo 5 / 6 / 7 would be the more sensible option. Try getting the RS model.
