Something you might want to invest in if you can get a set cheap

VWII calipers. the vented discs help out a lot.

Decent tyres too, cheap ones make too much noise and are generally crap

As you can tell, all track orientated things :ninja::lol:

i was going to invest in some with green stuff pads etc before september, just bought new discs and pads lol

tyres are going to be a must!! I've got maxxis atm, they are ok, but in the wet its horrid.

just need to sort out a GT engine out, il be in no rush to fit it, I'm going to need help fitting it, that's the only problem.

then polybush and stiffing up the car.

i want september here now!!

Looks good dude :-D

Will have a nosey at Polo Show if you're coming or wait till September!

yeah il be going poloshow mate, should all be done by then aswel :)

you had it dyno'd how well did it do ?

what did the little beast run?

  • Author

yeah had it done today, had the day off work and thought, 'why the fuck not!'

it made 52bhp! which to be fair is bloody good for a 20year old standard engine, i honestly thought it was going to be 30bhp lol only lost 3bhp

the exhaust sounded lovely in the garge, pop'd and banged :p

so we all had a talk with the atspeed guys, il be taking my new GT lump that I'm putting in next month up to them, were we going to improve performance.

- cat cams

- port and polish'd head

- fit a 421 with stainless system

- tune the weber dmtr up

- valve springs

i want it to be running around 100bhp plus if possible, so a 50% increase in power :D

I'm planning on taking this up a level, then get a 2nd car next year so this will be a fun track car.

plans look good, i dont think you'll make much more than 85HP on the downdraught weber, My 1.4 had a similar spec and made 87HP with a DMTL carb which has slightly larger venturis. to break 100hp from a 1.3 you end up pushing the power high and higher up the rev range so a short ratio box should be next on the list, a GT box is ideal.

Yo man, cars looking sweet, you should get close to 100bhp with the work you want done. The carb is a DMTL btw, more suited to higher power ;)

Will those plans be in effect before Germany?

Very similar to my plans

catcams or Schrick cam of some sort.

Ported n polished head, maybe bigger valves

1.4 ABD bottom end

GT box

CBR600 Bike carbs

full stainless custom system

Vernier pulley

Possibly a fancy ignition system (megajolt or alike)

I'm not gunna be happy until i have 100 at the wheels  So whatever it takes to get that ill do haha!

yeh there be ready for germany :)

i reckon il get 100bhp, but those plans i put ^^ are loowwwww budget for germany, il probably go all out when i get back from the 'ring lol

GT box and ABD bottom end will happen next year :)

Yeah, I'm probs gunna buy another engine and build it up over winter.

Get it ready so its just a simple swap. A'll id need to do then is get it tuned right and hope everything works.

Then I'll have a spare GT engine too.

  • Author

yeah man, thats the plan with me.

i want to learn about engines, so this will be a very good way for me to learn :)

getting a nice shed in my garden after summer, so il have a little work shop basically.

  • Author

also have got these puppies last week (which I'm thinking of selling)

I've got sparco harnesses to go with them aswel.

Nice seats, although I'm not a great fan of bucket seats n whatnot.

Alright in a track car but i hate them in a road car tbh. I prefer standard looking seats (rocco or raddo seats in a polo)

Garden sheds are the best

Mines full of garden related items though, must sort that out at some point haha and take over. Already got a massive work bench and vice in there though :D

  • Author

the seats are for sale, I'm keeping the Sparco harnesses though.

looking at some a few seats options, Cobra Classic's, Rocco's, Recaro's..

wheels will be gettin refurb next month :unibrow:

Tooty Frooties :unibrow:

miss my old wheels.hahah..the metro wants them backk..

think your gna struggle to get 100bhp using the carb though...but on the other hand my 1.3 mk2 golf made 75bhp.....standard block and head e.c.t but head was rebuilt,1.4 abd exhaust..(4-2-1) welded onto the mk2 system and bike carbs....so 20bhp on bike carbs and a standard exhaust from a later golf...

i should be picking up a mint mk2 coupe next week and plans are a abd running gt injection and p+p head e.c.t...my aim is a 100bhp...

You'll surely be looking for a GK inlet manifold? or have you covered that? I have one on mine, it is clearly bigger bore and port matched to the head. However now I have rebuilt my DMTR I need to look at getting a proper rolling road/re-jetting done but have other issues to deal with which might involve entire engine (maybe ABD). It's running too rich but I'm sure there is plenty horses in there. It's a daily and I just don't have time to get it sorted out.

Car looks nice, IMO loose the black plastic spoiler on the boot either by getting one without or weld up the holes.

yeah I've got a GK inlet on the Gt engine I'm picking up, with a dmtr so thats all sorted.

The boot! thats the only thing i hate about the car, the spoiler/trim. probably going to get it resprayed next year. I'm going all out with this and play to keep it a few years.
