Once the Max Power boys hit the mainstream, bodykits and neons started to appear on Novas, Cavaliers, any car you care to mention. Likewise with media- Take the Dukes Of Hazzard for example, or even Starksy and Hutch! Many people would have found a Maestro, Montego or a Ford Escort on their street with a huge white stripe on the side or a confederate flag on the roof. They were never going to be the muscle car from the TV, and the rusty bonneted Golfs and Polo's of this era are never going to be like the original Rat cars from days gone. But who cares? Because it's just a style they like.

it gets more looks because it looks like a turd on wheels, "rat" cars should have atleast 1 point were the owners splashed some cash, i.e. the engine or a nice set of split rims etc if not they look shit and should fall into the "shat" look atleast if you want to be nice..

split rims will never go out, they are timeless, BECAUSE THEY LOOK GOOD unlike this stupid fad, as soon as max power start liking it the vw lot will move on, much like the euro look has now. I havnt spent alot on my car, i just havnt done stuff to it to make it look plain shit unlike the people who think putting checkers and a rusted bonnet makes there car "rat" oh wait sorry forgot the gay single yellow foglamp and roofrack which are also staple in a "rat" car diet. I do like your car and a RAT car, Always have something Shiny and another thing special about them

Would never have the confidence to do it to mine but i know someone who has on a Coupe, naturally rusted bonnet, shabby filing on purpose, stripped out, roof rack, kayaks permanently on, didn't get washed from All Types 2009 till September where it was sold for £150

RAT cars are coming popular now, and will become similar, as there only a certain extent you can go, cant exactly hang door from them so it has to be rope etc

My Views anyway but one of my favorite Rat cars has to be this :)

Its just different, doesnt have excessive accesorising, not sure what its shiny point is but hay its rat :)

Rat look cars are a bit like emos. They don't want to conform, but they all end up looking the same.

Rolo is one of the handful of people who have done it properly I reckon :-)

its still classed as a rat, yeah neglecting a car etc, but they have neglected it, maybe not natural still neglected

another good rat i like is one of a Mk1 Golf baby Blue (has been posted here) with P-slots and running a nice lump

The red Mk3 had a fully rusted natural bonnet, side strips removed - adhesive not, just a neglected car
