It cracks me up how everyone gets abused for mentioning 'rat' now.

I think people have difficulty accepting that it has become a trend, just like euro or whatever. If you ask me its a refreshing change from most previous trends and if you think about it its pretty original for a trend.

As with all car trends there is a stereotype that people will often stick to, which often annoys various losers who will say 'ooo you sheep' etc etc, you cant expect everyone to be totally original, infact most stuff that I see that hasnt been done before looks shit, and thats why no one has done it before. I dont see anything wrong with seeing somthing you like and replicating it on your own car.

not another rat argument :retard:

rat is what ever the majority says it is so deal with it.

Winds me up when people bang on about 'forced rat.' I should fucking hope its deliberate! Otherwise what are you doing, just generally neglecting your cars bodywork for no particular reason???

It's a bloody look, get over it people! XD

Welcome to the club matey, best thing you can do is see what Google images has to offer on Rat VW's, get yourself some inspiration and get ratting!

Someone doesnt know what rat is.....its not like the "scene"

Someone who dosent realise that rat IS the scene.

But it shouldnt be, rat is about individuality - doing something because you like it. not to please the masses...

So does everyone lower their MK2 golf on BBS splits because everyone else does it? Or do they do it because they have seen cars like that and they really like the look, so they want to replicate it. Surely no one modifies their car 'to please the masses'?

So how many threads do you see with "what wheels should i get?"

Thats modding for their own enjoyment i take it?

And matt paint is not rat, someone did it to cover scratches one day basically - someone else thought it was shit - some other idiot thought it was rat and so it began....

There are very very few ways you can please the masses. Least of all on here. You're either a car enthusiast or a poser, either way, not everyone will like your style.

Well said that man 8-)

oh dear, this is getting into another 'VW Scene' debate/juvenile argument again i see?

well, just to add it to the mix.. tanks, land rovers and general military vehicles are painted in matt green, are they not? hehe

Hmmm, yeah true. But the same thing happens with rat all the time, proving my point that it is 'scene'.

Matt/satin paint has been around a long time, certainly way longer than the 'rat look'. But surely has to be considered part of the 'rat look' now, you cant really have a 'rat look' car with shiney paint can you? Its either rust or dull paint surely? Chrome wont get you home and all that.

Valid point there CWA :)

Just juvenile debate....n00bs

Actually i don't find this to be a juvenile argument, it's been more of a debate...its going quite well compared to other threads!

Isn't matt paint a hot rod thing? oooooooo

Lynden's mk3 is a great example The rat "trend" or "style", like any trend, involves a heavily respected style that gains a following. Once the Max Power boys hit the mainstream, bodykits and neons started to appear on Novas, Cavaliers, any car you care to mention. Likewise with media- Take the Dukes Of Hazzard for example, or even Starksy and Hutch! Many people would have found a Maestro, Montego or a Ford Escort on their street with a huge white stripe on the side or a confederate flag on the roof. They were never going to be the muscle car from the TV, and the rusty bonneted Golfs and Polo's of this era are never going to be like the original Rat cars from days gone. But who cares? Because it's just a style they like.

So what's the problem exactly?

I bet you had fun creating that

I'm sure you had to get your chequebook out to pay for all those stickers

The thing i love about all these pathetic arguments, is when you get people calling these rat "look" cars - RATS

I think rat "look" is shite, but i love most rat cars :-) rat is something that should happen naturally, imo of course

Winds me up when people bang on about 'forced rat.' I should fucking hope its deliberate! Otherwise what are you doing, just generally neglecting your cars bodywork for no particular reason???

Ermmm, that's the idea behind rat? Forcing it isnt....

Rat cars happened naturally, it was never forced.

If its there naturally then all is good, if its forced then its just not. i mean why would you go and pour paint stripper over your car?

I love rat arguments :D

I get to vent anger from a generally crap day on people that 'just don't understand'

Who gives a fuck just do what you want with it!
