17 AND £63 A MONTH INSURANCE ON MY VALVER.

Featured Replies

Just recently turned 17 and went to get insurance on my Valver to drive on my provisional. Was wondering what i was going to do as i was getting quotes in the region of £2k to £3k. Then out of the blue my dad said. You could always get insurance through me if you want. So i looked through different insurers and got a quote for £450 a year but they wanted to fit a tracker to my car. which i didn't want as all i need is for them to cancel it after they realise that i have broke the speed limit all the time. So i found one which is £735 a year and has a deposit of £156 and i now pay £63 a month for my insurance. Love my dad.LOL :D

It a risky strategy getting insurance to drive through a third party mate...

Is that with all the mods you've done declared aswell...?

And Tracker doesn't measure what speed your doing,it only works when

they switch it on if your car gets stolen so that the cops can "track" it down.

Have you actually got a full driving liscence? Because I'd b carefull, my mate payed a grand to drive on his provisional, I payed two to drive normally, he thought he was so much better reh reh and then wen he passed it went up too 3 grand!! He didn't have a clue about it... Just a heads up

But surely you don't earn your NCB so your insurance never really goes down?! It's just best to bite the bullet and pay top whack for the first couple of years.

insurance near doubles when you pass, mine went from 900 to 2100

agree with all the above....mine went up when i passed and i deffinatly agree to just bite the bullet as you will benefit in the long run imo

Better in the long run to be on your own

Is that with mods declared though? And it will go up when you pass so you should check how much for that

And dont speed all the time when you've just passed your test, or all the work you've done on your car will be ruined pretty shortly....

When you pass the price will double.

You wont earn your own no claims bonus.

never understand why people go on parents insurance !

Go on your own insurance. Its the way forward for the long term with NCB etc

Fronting Fail

Am not bothered about it being better in the long run. I need it cheap now.lol I have no mods on my car which i need to declare. Most if not all the parts are genuine VW etc.

I see where u's r all coming from about having NBC but i will go through my own insurance eventually but at the moment it benefits to have it cheap.

Kuszpit :)

Alright son but dont say we didnt warn you :-p

But were they originally on your car? Optional extra's should technically be declared....

if you cant afford to do it by yourself then obviously this is the best option, and your insurance will still go down a bit next year. or you can be like me payin £170 a month and having no money for anything else what so ever! :D

Name your parents on a policy in YOUR name, not illegal (fronting) and you can earn your own ncb all for about the same price.

thats what I've done, takes a couple of hundred of, thats about it..

I dont know what everyones problem is, its great being on your parents insurance. As long as the car is in their name and not yours you are totally safe. The policy will not specify how much each driver has to use the car, and even if it did there is no way they could gather any data on who used the car and when.

As for NCB, most people have a crash in their first few years of driving anyway. And when you are young its your age that puts the price up so much, not the fact that you have no NCB. I cant believe someone acutally wrote "if you dont get any NCB then your insuance never really goes down".

id say its the best option to go on your parents for the 1st year or so, unles you can realy afford to do it yourself. I've nearly being driving a year now and havnt crashed yet :D altho 2 people have crashed into me..

Plus, some insurances let named drivers earn their own NCB.. LIke Directline for instance.

i dont see the problem really.

It's not a problem it just isnt as beneficial as it seems..

No they cant prove or limit how much each driver uses the car, and yes most people do crash in their first year or 2 of driving, hence why if he crashed, his parent(s) would lose their no claims bonus.

You can earn your own no claims as a named driver, Direct Line promote that offer alot but it's onlt them that accept that NCB, and they wont insure mods until you're 25.

saying that, i was on my dads direct line policy for a year, and i earned 1 years named driving experience, and people say that only direct line accept it but they dont, they are companies out there who are willing to accept named drivers no claims, as long as your prove its genuine through paperwork from the previous insurer. I argued with a woman from direct line, about getting the paperwork sent out, but in the end they had too, and now I'm on my own policy with all mods declared with a named driving experience discount :).

I'm the same with Quinn, this is my second year of insurance, they wouldnt accept it as a No Claims Discount, only as a years driving experience.

Oh and i dont know if its changed in the 2 years I've been driving, but dont you have to have someone over a certain age and with a full license in the car with you at all times if you're insured on a provisional, and have L plates on the car?

yeh mate pretty sure that still applies. i think the person accompanying you has to have 3 years driving experience or be at least 21 with a license?

not sure if thats exactly right, but its along those lines
