Cheers everyone for the positive comments! Propper boost for keeping the project up and running :)

The lenght of the sentence doesn't bother, but damn, did you have to quote the entire first post? but it's a mk3 Golf 1.8 8v spi unit, be aware, there are 2 version, 1 that will fit a mk4 Polo 1.3 spi, and the other that will fit the mk3 Polo 1.3 spi!

Well, it's been a long, long, very long time since I've updated on here, so a small summary of the stuff I did to the 6N in the past 1,5 year. Finally the car has been on the road since June 2010 again, it's not finished yet, but it's seen the road again! 8-)

Old engine went out, so time for some coffee

2010-06juni5.jpg

I think I saw one fly over the cuckoo's nest:

2010-06juni3.jpg

Then started stripping down the donor 20vT, which was to be completely rebuild with new bearings, rings, gaskets, etc. etc.

2010-08augustus.jpg

2010-08augustus4.jpg

Test fitting it in the 6N:

2010-10oktober2.jpg

First dilemma's popped up, had to do some modifications, old and new support on chassis:

2010-10oktober3.jpg

And removed some stuff I wasn't going to use anymore at the same time:

2011-02februari3.jpg

2011-02februari2.jpg

Finally it hung in straight and even:

2010-10oktober6.jpg

2010-10oktober5.jpg

At first I wanted to just use the standard K03, but since I already had a KMS standalone-motormanagement ECU laying around, the choice became obvious -> go big or go home!

Then I got an offer I couldn't refuse, a friend of mine offered me a Garrett including the external wastegate kit, of which the wastegate housing and turbo exhausthousing were already flowed. So I bought that for the 20vT!

To give an impression, on the right a MHI 16T (not the smallest either), on the right my Garrett:

2010-11november7.jpg

2010-11november9.jpg

And of course it had to be obvious that a bigger turbo was installed, so it had to be seen on the engine. Therefore we choose a spot right above the engine!

2010-11november.jpg

Snug fit!

2010-11november2.jpg

Measured it all, and had the manifold custom made from stainless steel, first only tack welded so we could trial fit it:

2010-12december2.jpg

2010-12december.jpg

Some readjustments were needed, but nothing crazy. Then it was welded up and ball-polished, for bling and smoothness on the inside (better flow):

2011-02februari.jpg

Turbo back on, also had the valvecover and inletmanifold ball-polished:

2011-01januari.jpg

2011-01januari3.jpg

Autotechniek Leenders made the custom loom in the meantime  :

2010-12december8.jpg

Ready for trialfit!:

2010-12december5.jpg

Starting sanding down the enginebay, smoothed the stroke kit and the brackets I wasn't going to use anymore. Ready for it's primer in the booth at bij Autotechniek Leenders:

2011-03maart3.jpg

And sanding, sanding, sanding:

2011-03maart5.jpg

Time for colour:

2011-04april.jpg

Toen kon alles er weer langzaampjes in, rembekrachtiger weer netjes gemaakt:

2011-04april5.jpg

Engine and gearbox got build back in the meantime in the workshop of Autotechniek Leenders, and put back in the car:

2011-06juni.jpg

Garrett is on again, close, but he won't touch the firewall, did I say snug fit yet?

2011-07juli5.jpg

Then the intercooler piping could be made, minimal use of silicon to prevent loss in boost, plus metal can be ballpolished ;)

2011-07juli.jpg

Time to custom make the exhaust, using the original catalic convertor, not sure if the cat stays on, but just for now it's on, and maybe I'll get a 200cpi cat lateron.

Van turbo tot einddemper naast de auto gelegd:

2011-07juli2.jpg

Ready for fitting back:

2011-07juli13.jpg

2011-09september4.jpg

Heatwrap on the downpipe:

2011-09september3.jpg

Turbo housing was cast, looked like shit to be honoust:

2011-09september5.jpg

So I polished it:

2011-09september7.jpg

2011-09september6.jpg

Got the intercooler piping back from ballpolishing, smooth on the out- and inside :D

2011-09september10.jpg

In the meantime Autotechniek Leenders:

-timed my new camshafts:

2011-10oktober9.jpg

-fitted the stronger fuelpump:

2011-10oktober8.jpg

-zinc-coated the bits and pieces:

2011-10oktober6.jpg

2011-10oktober5.jpg

-fitted the biggest master cilinder we could fit:

2011-11november.jpg

-and ballpolished the alternator housing, bracket etc.:

2012-01januari.jpg

Found a spot for my airfilter, and got a pipe connecting it to the turbo made:

2011-12december5.jpg

2011-12december6.jpg

And it's nose is back on again in the workshop at Autotechniek Leenders:

2012-02februari.jpg

Bought me Audi A6 winterwheels in the meantime:

2010-06juni2.jpg

Got them redrilled to 4x100, and polished at Felgenpoliererei Gescher:

2011-04april2.jpg

165-40-16 Kumho's on:

2011-10oktober4.jpg

Smoked the headlights:

2011-03maart.jpg

Bought me a new mk6 Golf GTD steeringwheel:

2011-04april7.jpg

And how it looked last Saturday evening, ready for it's debute at the first VW event over here in Holland:

2012-03maart5.jpg

2012-03maart4.jpg

Some minor stuff needs to be done now, but it finally drives again, now the first 500km, and then it's time for finetuning the standalone motormangement ECU at Hulsen Turbo Tuning on the dyno! :D

Haha, thanks Polomon, but it's not the first 6N 20vT we've build ;) almost all things that went wrong on the build of the 6N bi-turbo of my mate, were known now, so we could do all things right in the first go ;) which made it a lot easier. It was all the custom stuff, boostpiping, exhaust, manifolds, etc. that took a lot of time, but was worth it in the end!

8-) fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinally

I wouldnt have been as patient as you were man..no way haha

I'm glad you changed your steering wheel

Mate that is crazy . love them rimz . engine looks sweet as to bud . verry very nice car . Dave

Holy sweet mother of crap. That is incredible. Attention to detail is crazy- How come you chose not to move the battery dude?

And again absolutely stunning <3

Perfect, literally so so so nice!

What spoiler is that? :)

Smooth , Air and now a 20VT ....just full of win this polo...awesome work mate =D

Cheers for the nice remarks people, they're well appreciated! :-D

How come you chose not to move the battery dude?

Well, if I would have moved it to the bad, it would have left a giant empty spot. Boostpipe and big filter on the left of the engine, empty spot on the right = not the prettiest look in my opinion, so I left it there, and tried to use as much OEM VW parts to make it fit (for instance crafted a custom fuseboxmounting thingy, to support the OEM 6N fusbox on the battery). Now the bay is evenly filled up with sheit, which gives it a nicer look in my opinion

I find the not overly minimal look in the bay pleasing. Looks more like it should have come out the factory that way..... well kind of.

Excellent stuff. What kind of power are you expecting from this once all running in and tweaking has been done?

8-)

That's is fucking out this world buddy love it <3 I want a 20v now :(

That's exactly what I was aiming for, a look that could have been from the factory, with attention to detail and not too much of a minimalistic look that's been so overpopural recent years.

Powerfigures should be in the 300+bhp range, but that's totally dependent on how much of a restriction the OEM 20v catalyc converter will be. I want to try it with the OEM item first, since that's the most legal and easiest option for APK (Dutch MOT). But if it holds performance back below 300bhp, it'll just have to go and make way for a 200cpi stainless version ;)

You and Rin been ballpolishing? Double dutch rudder?

Looking great Jarno, need to catch up soon when you are in UK
