I've seen some alloys i'd like to put on my 6n. The studs ar 4x100 and the alloys are ET38.

Will they fit my mk4 polo? I have standard suspension?

the should be fine, that is pretty much standard offset for VW alloys and the correct stud pattern.

If they are 7 inch wide or greater, it may foul the suspension legs/front calipers or rear axle, if so a set of spacers (hubcentric if you go over 10mm) should give you sufficient clearance

The tyres for them are 185/70 what spacer will i need for these?

you will need tyres like 195/45 15. they will be like balloons!

What do the tyre numbers mean?

I thought the first number ( eg. 185) was the width for the wheel?

They are 14" alloys

yeah 185 is the width of the wheel and the next number is the profile of the tyre. the higher that number, the bigger the sidewall of the tyre.

and the 14 at the end is the size of the wheel.

So is 185 trye size over 7"? if so what spacer will i need?

you dont need spacers for tyre sizes. spacers are put between the wheel itself and the hub it bolts onto.

185 is the width of the tyre itself.

Yes, but you have a certain amount of play in the numbers. 185 for example may fit, but using 165s (for example again) will give you a bit of stretch. 195/50/15 broken down is

195 is the width of the tyre in millimetres (this is the bit where the tread is)

50 is the percentage of the width that is the tyre profile (the big where this is all written on)

15 is the tyre diameter measured from the inner part.
