yeah i'm thinking of gettin rid of the gash blue paint work on my mkII coupe S..

just wondered if anyone has any tips for which paint to use and any tips on how to go about doin the whole job??

i'm gonna go with a chequered roof too,...possibly the bonnet aswell....but need tips on doin this too??

dont do it matt black buddy, so may cars running it, it looks good but think about other colours first. drop me a pm if you want more advice or a coloured sprayjob cheap

Personally i'd go for egg shell and not matte. Matte black shows all of the imperfections worse than a gloss job. Your also going to want cellulose based paint. If your planning on doing the whoile car, you'll want to do it with a compressor and spray gun too. its a big job, and depends on how good you want the finish. Best thing to do is to get down to a bod yshop suppliers, and ask for their advice, since its their trade. I got good advice form my local one, and i also work in a body shop atm (casually mind, so i'm no expert )

well the paint job i got at the moment is awful,....its had a full respray at some point in its life and whoever did it wasn't very skilled,.....i'd be happy with a shoddy matt black for now as i'm planning on having a professional job on it sometime next year,......

so any tips on the procedure and what paint to get??? could i just use normal cans??

Yea egg shell is the term used for house hold paints, but does basically mean satin.

not really trying to b the most original for now,....just a quick fix for the shit paint job it has at the moment,....i dont have the money to get a proper job at the moment,............quick matt black all over dont care how bad it looks its gonna look better than now!!!!

Have you posted pictures up of your car? I'm sure the paint could be tidyed up (you should see mine) It's amazing what touching up, cleaning and polishing a car can do.

In my opinion the mat paint just completely de-values a car. Some of the satin finishes can look good but it's not easy to paint a car anyway unless your seriously dedicated and go through the processes.

Satin gives a better finish than matt IMO. I used halfords rattle cans to touch my GT up and it wasn't too bad.

i've just done mine last weeknd in satin, its not a quick job but its worth it for sure...used a compressor and gun glad didnt rush it and do it with cans gave a much better finish this way

who gives a shit if its original? do you think all these people painting there cars lary colours are being original? that shit was going on in the 80's ffs

just do what makes you happy, if you like matt black then go for it, 10 cans of halfords matt black will give you a good finish on a mk2, i only used 8 on my mk3 and it wasn't too bad at all. just make sure yo key your paint first (rub it down with some wet and dry before you paint it), other than that its a peace of piss, just take your time, don't hold the can too close to the body work and never hold your hand still with your finger on the nozzle (let off at the end of every stroke). stick to that and you can't go wrong

wicked McLOVIN thats a massive help,......i actually saw this pic on another topic and thought it looked sweet as,....i was rubbing down the rust yesterday and i'll be wet and dying today depending on the weather,.....i've got 6 600ml cans and also i've got 5 primers,.....u think its worth putting the base coat on????

white wheels should work well with the matt black

you shouldn't really need to primer it as matt black is pretty thick and can be used as a primer itself. beware though because i have just bought some upol matt black which is a lot thiner than the stuff from halfords and my local motor factors so if you've got some of this stuff you'd probably need more, with the halfords stuff tho you might just manage it with the 6 cans, but you'll have to go easy with it to start with, but after the first one you'll get an idea of how far you can get with each can.

although if the weather near you is like it is here you probably won't be doing much on your car

yeah its pretty wet here and breezy,........i got some bodyline trade paint from express factors,.............should be good i used it to paint my wheels last year on my mark 4 and its quite thick,.......i just dont wanna un out half way through lol.....patchwork......

u know how to take the bumpers off a mk2 or shu i just leave em on??
