how to spray a car matt black?

Featured Replies

I'll be doing a build thread soon, matt black with rattle cans, its not as easy as people make out.

yes it is :?

i used 8 cans to do this, the only time it got more paint was when it got dirty, i just quickly masked it up and gave it another quick coat to get it looking mint again and save me having to clean it 8-)

i just gave it a quick rub over with some scotch bright, masked up the windows then gave it a coat of red oxide (that was the colour i was going with to start with till i saw how shit it looked lol), then just used 8 cans of matt black on it.

i'm currently painting my scirocco matt black one panel at a time as i sort the rot and bodged filler repairs on it to give me a solid base for the proper colour its going, if the weather's good this weekend i should get a good amount sorted and i'll be posting photos up in my build thread if you want to have a gander. i'll be using a lot more than 8 cans on this but only because its only costing £1.39 per can

after a couple of weeks though it loses the shine that mine had in the photos above and goes like this

  • 2 weeks later...

I sprayed mine about a year and a half ago and took a week off work, spent two days rubbing down, and a mate said I could use his car port, and we sealed it so it, so there was no wind. Took me less than ten cans, just took my time over it, got a good finish, but winter came and it started to flake in some places.

Not a polo, but enjoy the pics.
