Most of what you need to know is in the build thread:

http://www.vwgolfmk1.org.uk/modules.php?na...&highlight=

willing to take px on a MK1/2 Golf 1.3, or a MK2/3 Polo 1.3. 1.0 also considered, but ideally at least 1.3 :)

Tax is due but I can buy some more if required for a bit extra on the asking price, plus if I dont get another car before the end of the month I'll have no choice anyway!

Car will come on 15" BBS RAs with excellent tread on all 4 tyres. There are a huge list of things done to the car not included in the build thread, the main thing is the car is completely late specced inside, has the later stalk and mfa dash. Car is also just late enough for the blade fusebox too.

The outer slot seals are new, rears are still in the original VW packaging as I've not got round to fitting! Both B pillar seals are in excellent condition and late spec, as are the door seals and the roof seals.

Car is completely leak free, and almost everything works, only issue is the MPG gauge doesn’t work because the seller who sold me the clocks didn’t mention he had pinched the vacuum unit off the back :(

All the dash lights work except the heater panel, rear screen works as do all the lights, boot light and 1 touch electric windows. Hood is manual, there is an electric hood switch but that is just to fill the hole in the console

Seats are later type, slide handles were swapped over as the chassis has early front runner brackets on. Bit wear to driver bolster as you would expect, it’s not come thru yet tho as you can see. I swapped the seat base fabrics over to help increase the life of the fabric, so passenger seat base has wear on bolster fabric on driver side. All the bolster foams are in good condition, no wear there.

Parcel shelf is a badly made stealth item, which has worn thru in places. Has 2 new speakers in it though, biguns! The door speakers are also good ones, the tweaters were blown so i disconnected em. The original blue parcel shelf will be included, and the shelf supports are also still in blue fabric. I originally planned to redo the shelf and retrim it and the supports you see.

The interior was originally blue, the shelf & supports are the only original bits left. All the dash, A & B pillar trims, doorcards & carpets were removed and swapped for black items, carpets are newton commercial items. Seatbelts all upgraded to late spec, the driver side belt is a passenger item from a low mileage cabby and it shows, works really nicely. Its the little things that make all the difference ;)

The engine is completely standard and it pulls well, with no smoke when cold or otherwise. The management is all std 16v stuff, it never cuts out and idles at 1k all day long no matter what. Airbox is an early 16v item, with the bottom chopped out for bonnet clearance. Gearbox is a MK1 GTI short-ratio box, which was recently refurbished before I bought it. The gears all select perfectly and the short ratios suit the 16v lump down to the ground, it can embarrass quite a few 'quick' modern cars ;)

The engine loom was custom made by me to a high standard, using the original loom with the engine management bits removed and replaced with early 16v stuff. I have kept the splicing to an absolute minimum and many of the original spade plugs were cut off and re-done with a proper crimping tool, as most of the wires were too long as it was a MK2 16v loom. The 16v ISV controller is present and works 100%. A relayed lighting loom is also included, makes the lights very bright!

The exhaust system blows a bit at the joints, all it needs is pulling apart and resealing, I plan to put a bit of high-temp silicone over the blowing joints which should sort it. Suspension has new boge shocks all round, and good std GTI springs. wishbones, ball joints are new, as are top mounts, bump stops and track rods + boots. Anti roll bar has been painted, but old bushes were reused as my poly kit didn’t come with them! no play in the bushes though, and U clamps were also de-rusted and treated with POR15.

Fuel lines are all new crazy quiff items from the fuel pump all the way to the engine bay, fuel pump is a nearly new item, filler neck was a mint one taken off a citigolf, I cleaned it up and put a coat of por 15 on it as well for good measure. Accumulator is a good 2nd hand item, taken off a MK2 which had a nice coating of waxoil over the pump area so it was mostly still in its original green paint! I treated the rust that had come thru and gave it a coat of POR15. A new fuel pump bracket was sourced, plus 4 new rubber mounts. the accumulator brackets were also treated with some por15.

All the locks work off the same key, a new one is included as well as the original. Filler cap also has 2 keys, plus the the original main & fuel cap keys even have the VAG lock codes on! Glovebox lock also works off the main key, I retumbled a MK2 Golf glovebox lock to suit B)

The car is fitted with remote central locking as well, pimpin.

Brakes are excellent as pretty much all of it is new or reconditioned, has a MK2 16v servo, rear discs and the rare Scirocco 16v front setup, completely refurbished with genuine VAG seals & slider boots by myself. It has new flexi lines all round, and a new MK2 Golf rear compensator since MK1 items are expensive/hard to find. This means I could do away with the old brake pressure reducers, as the MK2 compensator was designed with rear discs in mind.

Main thing that lets it down is the bodywork, the PO’s spray job wasn’t as good as I would like, few runs and bubbles thanks to poor prepwork, but it is still very good for a car of this age. The engine bay wasn’t painted so is in the original shade of flat blue with patches of black where I treated rust scabs and the like. Battery tray is solid, and no rust underneath anywhere to be seen. Bumpers could do with blacking, but I just haven’t got round to it! Hood is a recent 2nd hand one, so is pretty good all round, no rips or leaks. Hood rams are in good nick so hood folds nicely!
