so what your actully getting for your 6k is a used mk1 shell with unknown milage, unknown history and no way of even knowing if its legit, plus it could well cost a small furtune and a lot of hassle just to get it registered and it may even end up on a Q plate, and thats before you even think about the cost of buying all the parts to make it complete. You could buy a sorted mk1 show car for less than than the shell...

Surely this is only worth about 300 tops? Or am i over looking some thing?...

its more likely that the seller cancelled all the bids, by saying 'item is no longer available for sale' or whatever.

if he left his mate win the last auction, he will still have to pay eBay like 10% Final Value Fees which would be at least a couple of hundred ££.. so he probs just got cold feet about how things were going and cancelled them all.

and yeh getting a mate to bid, or having duplicate accounts to boost the price is called 'shill bidding' and is regarded as fraud. eBay claim they take a tough stance against it, and with the prices involved here I would expect it to be closely monitored, but then again i suppose there is no real way of telling.

anyway, i question the whole reason the seller is trying to sell on eBay in the first place. eBay is not really any good except for getting rid of cars you can no longer keep quick-time. everyone knows that you never get full value of the car from auction, so he is definately trying to trick someone into 'signing a contract to buy'. 10 days is no where near enough time to look into and decide upon buying a car like this (in my eyes) so i'm agreeing with the general consensus of opinion.. DODGY AS FECK!!

i'm backing up his theory on the DVLA registering it wrong somehow.. they did exactly the same with my 75 Beetle.

After buying it and scouring through the service history, i saw that on the V5 document the chassis number ended in 5565 and not 5566 like on the car.

i was really worried at first, thinking i had been jewed over and sold a cloned car and all sorts. luckily i had a copy of the original first registration document and saw that even back then in 1975, the chassis number was recorded as 5565 (incorrect) and up until 2007 when I bought the car it had never been rectified (even though clearly shown as 5566 on both the ID plates on the car with no evidence of tampering).

i was even shocked to find that going through every MOT document from 1975, the recorded chassis number actually alternated between 5565 and 5566 depending on how the respective garages actually took the data (either looking on the car directly or consulting DVLA records).

when i found this problem, all i did was send the DVLA a letter explaining my theory and asking them to change the recorded chassis number. so my point is the DVLA could have easily recorded the chassis number wrong and the guy selling this could have spotted that and taken advantage of that fact.

all he would need to do is search up for any records held of the actual chassis number shown on the car (and of course there wouldn't be) hence giving the impression that the car has never been registered / used.

but of course the car has been used and was in a shit condition hence the respray. why the fuck would you respray a car in that apparent condish with that kind of history cos of a bit of lacqeur peel?

big pile of massive BS, hence the guy's touchiness on the subject and reluctancy to answer genuine sensible questions.

he should get done for fraud and so should his eBay buddy for trying to help him.

What I don't understand is why anyone would py £6000 for a shell when they could buy that Lhasa green one Turbodally linked up for a fiver cheaper?

You wouldn't believe the hassle I've had convincing the DVLA my car is a 1.6. At least it cost me less to tax it..

imo its at its true value now, would be more depending on the quality of the paint job and shell and if it had paper work and an honest seller, which it hasn't.

see i don't see what the benifit of buying this over any other mk1 golf car/shell would be? ok you'd be the only keeper on the log book but it's not like you could say its only had one owner from new because how would you explain the fact that you haven't owned it from new?

also its not like you could put clocks in it with no miles on it and then sell it on as a hardly any miles from new car because you would have no paper work to back this up, who in there right mind is going to buy a restored car that says it has no miles on it but has no history from before the restoration/rebuild? especially when all you have is very sketchy story about how you came to be the first owner on the log book
