need some inspiration for my new mk2, show us some pics of your mk2 ICE

I don't have any photos at the moment but I have built my own centre console which houses 2 speakers on the sides. I am redesigning it as the first one was rushed for edition but basically, it was a made of mdf and 4 parts, the bottom, 2 sides and a price near the back that is nailed to the sides to give supports

I'll provide pictures as soon as I can.

why not build some pods for the doors...get bigger speakers in and a better sound

iv just helped my mate install some speakers behind the rear door cards in a mk7 polo.

it was simple and it possibly can be done on a mk2 and I might give it a go.

all he did was cut some mdf and cut the speaker hole in that and bolted in on and placed the door cards on top.

I'll give it a go this week and take some pics to see how it goes.

What you want is a nice retro HU like the Panasonic analogue radio with auto reverse casette deck,as fitted originally in my old '88 Coupe S,which now lives on in my '85. Then bring its sound out with a proper 4x6in paper cone loudspeaker in the dash,for the full 80's ICE flavour.

There's a guy on here who had his MK2 featured in PVW.

He had a nice set up in the back of his.

Mine's a pikey job at the mo, screwed the mid range woofers into the original door pockets and tweeters into the door card. I'm going to finish the job properly at some point.

Got 6 x 9s on the rear shelf, mostly for bass. Mk2 shelves are sturdy buggers.

Only ever did this at the front, still don't have an amp to do them justice

Not all comps need a Amp to give the good performance, My DLS are Made for a HU, and strictly says, for bets performance run off a HU

Best be in Mk2's would buy Phil J's Door Pods, Look great i think (not that i have any) and there enclosed meaning your mids will act great in them, and put the tweats into the dash, or door card like above.

Rear ice is simple, there two ways, have a sub Box (if you want Bass) and amp or build a install in the rear, wether it be false floor wheel welled :)

Just stay away from 6x9's as your ears draw sound in from the frontt and not the rear, have some Mids in the rear door cards for passenger but they wont help you listen better AT ALL!!

yes, i followed this guide : http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=73733 , or one very similar to it. Its pretty easy really, only hard part is covering them, but i could show you how i did it with a seam underneath which makes it much easier.

Only thing with mine is i dont have a door pocket, i thought it would be more hassle then its worth trying to include it.

prob didn't cost me more than £30 in materials, i bought much more fibreglass than i used as well.

what componants are they? do you rate them? I've got clarions in my van, but dont think they are all that

I've just got some DLS components and for £40 new (cash and carry ebay price RRP £90) there amazing, and not even in a build yet

Makes to look out for are JBL,DLS,Rainbow,Hertz Alpine are ok for budget from what I've heard

Just dont go spending Just £20 make £40 your minimum otherwise youll be dissapointed

jsut thought you should know its made of mdf and its not held down by anything. it stays in place 95% of the time i think its cause the speakers hold it down a little and i only need to occasionally bump it back into place. does quite well round large corners too

(I'm taking it apart anyway as I'm almost finished with a different one which would is a bit harder to make)
